Makers Broadcast S1/E7 [FULL EPISODE] Sophie Sellu - Woodworker

Makers Broadcast S1/E7 [FULL EPISODE] Sophie Sellu - Woodworker

The wooden goods at Grain & Knot are lovingly hand-crafted by Sophie in her studio.

Sophie graduated from the Manchester School of Art in 2009, and now lives and works in London.

After completing the Prince's Trust Enterprise Scheme, Sophie is now working as a full time woodworker, and is fully supported by the Prince's Trust.

Grain and knot was born from a love of nature, exploration and the need for purpose in creation. It is beautifully tactile, fully functional wooden kitchenware, with each item made from reclaimed timber.

'I am a multi-media artist living in beautiful Cornwall.
I love the idea of using unremarkable found objects and turning them into one-off sculptures. I’m inspired by my surroundings, but mostly I’m inspired by the materials I find.
I hope my work makes you smile!'

Hope more get made

I liked that it was just the maker speaking. I really connected with what they had to say. I hope the podcast starts up again.

Inspiring and beautifully crafted

A fascinating series offering crafts men and women, makers, a centre stage and a platform from which to share their own transformational creative lives and journeys. If I had the opportunity to start a podcast all over again this is how I would have approached it: hear stories about creativity and the mental courage that comes with leading a creative life from the makers themselves. Refreshing, insightful and delightful; most of all, inspirational.

refreshing- one for the 'must listen' list

This is a refreshing and confident piece of media, there is no unnecessary chit chat from the producer, it is just a flow of thought from the maker in question about their work, methods, struggles and associated thoughts. There is no agenda but neither does it wander aimlessly around with random and unnecessary comments. It’s lean but rich, very easy to listen to, and a great insight into the inner workings of creative people. My one issue is that the sound levels can sometimes be a bit erratic but I mention this to be a positive contribution.
