143: If I could go back, would I still leave America? (I get a bit raw in this one...)

If I woke up tomorrow as my 23-year-old self, knowing everything I know now, would I still move abroad? It is one of the biggest questions I ask myself from time to time. And today I am answering it honestly. This episode is a little different. There is no step-by-step guide or checklist. Instead, I am getting personal about what it has actually been like to build a life abroad, what I would do exactly the same, what I would change, and what surprised me in ways I never expected. Here is what we are covering: The biggest wins that made moving abroad one of the best decisions I have ever madeThe things that genuinely surprised me that nobody warned me aboutWhat I would do differently if I could start overWhether I would still choose London or whether another city might have been a better fitThe hardest question of all — would I still leave America? What I would tell my 23-year-old self before she got on that planeAnd at the end of it all I am coming back to the big question. Would I move abroad again? If moving abroad is not a perfect life, but it is a bigger life, a more adventurous life, and a life that helped me grow into someone I never would have become otherwise  then what is your answer? Here is the question I want to leave you with. 5 years from now, which decision are you more likely to regret? Trying it? Or always wondering what would have happened if you had? I would love to hear from you. 142: How to Make Friends When You Move Abroad: My Best Tips for Building a Community

One of the biggest myths about moving abroad is that friendships will happen naturally once you arrive. In reality, making friends abroad as an adult in a brand new country is one of the hardest parts of the move. And almost nobody plans for it. In this episode I am sharing my best tips for intentionally building a community abroad so your new country actually starts to feel like home. Here is what we are covering: Why community matters more than most people realize and why it often determines whether someone stays abroad or moves back homeWhy feeling lonely at first does not mean you made the wrong decisionThe simple rule that completely changed how I approached making friends abroadHow to find your people through shared interests and consistent routinesWhether to focus on local friends or other expats and why the answer is bothThe best apps and platforms for making real in-person connections abroadWhy becoming a regular somewhere is one of the most underrated strategies for building communityHow to be the one who makes the first move even when it feels uncomfortableMaking friends abroad is not about becoming best friends with everyone you meet. It is about consistently putting yourself in situations where connection can happen. And over time your new city will start to feel less like a destination and more like home because of the people you meet along the way. If you know someone who is worried about feeling lonely after moving abroad, send them this episode. 👉Take the free quiz: Which European city should you move to? 🤔 Grab my free guide: 5 exact steps to move abroad Website: jordangiberson.com Instagram: @jordan.giberson

140: Move abroad mythbusters: 30 things Americans get wrong about living abroad

The internet is full of information about moving abroad. Some of it is true. Some of it was true ten years ago. Some of it depends on the country. And some of it is completely made up. In this episode, I am busting 30 of the biggest myths Americans believe about moving abroad and living in Europe. And some of these might surprise you. Here is what we are covering: Do you really need to speak the language before you move?Do you need $50,000 saved before you go?Is Europe actually cheaper than America?Does moving abroad solve all your problems? Is it too late to move in your 30s, 40s, or 50s?Will you lose all your friends back home?Is getting a visa actually impossible? Will you regret it?Plus rapid fire myth busting on everything from European bureaucracy to dating abroad to whether you will actually travel every single weekend. Here is what I know after almost seven years of living in London. I have never once met somebody who said they regretted moving abroad. Not one person. The biggest myth of all might be that there is one right way to do this. There is not. The goal is not to find the perfect plan. It is to build the life you have been dreaming about. 137: Why some Americans love living abroad (and others move back home)

If moving abroad is so amazing, why do some people move overseas, love it, and never come back, while others return home within a year or two? You probably know both stories. The person who says moving abroad was the best decision they ever made. And the person who says, "It was good, but I'm ready to be home." So what is the real difference between those two people? And which one will be you?  In this episode, I am getting honest about what actually determines whether you will thrive abroad or eventually decide to move back home. And spoiler, it has very little to do with where you move and everything to do with why you move. Here is what we are covering: The biggest mistake people make before moving abroad and why it sets them up for disappointmentThe three real reasons why some people absolutely love living abroad and never look backThe three honest reasons why some people end up moving back home after a year or twoThe most important questions to ask yourself before you make the moveThe five traits that the people who thrive abroad almost always have in commonThe truth is, moving back home is not failure. Neither is staying forever. The real failure is never giving yourself the chance to find out. Whether you are still dreaming about moving abroad or you are already living it and wondering if you made the right call, this episode will give you a lot to think about. 🔗 Ready to take your first step?
