I was excited to listen to learn about the life and story of Juan Gabriel, an iconic Mexican singer. While the podcaster’s voice and storytelling are engaging, I felt the focus shifted too much to her own life and experiences, particularly her journey as a queer Latinx person. While those stories are valid and interesting in their own right, the balance between her personal narrative and Juan Gabriel’s story wasn’t quite right for me.
I tuned in to hear about Juan Gabriel, but instead, it felt more like an autobiography of someone I didn’t know and wasn’t invested in. If the host were a more established figure in podcasting, this might have worked better. As it stands, I think this podcast would have been stronger with a deeper focus on Juan Gabriel’s incredible life and legacy. Overall, it’s an average podcast that had potential but didn’t deliver what I came for.
