This stands as a monument to a time when the world lost its way. The presenters are sincere and the podcast is well structured. I listened with an open mind, but nothing here convinced me. It’s not that gender non conformity is negative or even new - but the framework explored here: ‘non binary’ is incoherent.
As others have pointed out it’s regressive: masculine women aren’t a lesser form of woman - desiring to wear a plaid shirt doesn’t make you a man. Arguing, as they do, that men or women are locked into feminine or masculine roles and that to escape you must create a new category of NB, reinforces not breaks fixed gender norms. It’s a curiously essentialist, rigid and conservative approach even if the participants have ‘double thought’ it as the opposite. A more enlightened view is that men or women can express themselves however they like, and this doesn’t undermine their biology. In fact a feminine man is just as much a man as his masculine counterpart. The linguistic and mental hoops they jump through to argue the opposite are ultimately tiresome and self indulgent. The world has now moved on, and rightly so.
