Discover Britain's lost ghost stories. Author David Paul Nixon has spent over decade collecting horror stories that have never been told before. Are these takes of madness, lies, or self-deception? Or could they be the real thing? The only way to find out, is to listen.

26 - Kept Overnight
It was a routine operation. She didn’t think she’d have to stay overnight. With strange sounds on the ward. And something hiding behind the curtain.
This was meant to be one of the Shorts series, but this hospital-based horror story has ended up being a much longer supernatural tale than I originally planned. So I’ve added it as regular-length episode. Unlike most of my cases, this story just takes place over one night. It’s a nightmare that grows more and more strange and chilling, until it reaches a terrifying crescendo.

The Body Snatcher by Robert Louis Stevenson (BONUS #6)
“… When subjects were scarce the pair would drive far into the country in Macfarlane's gig, visit and desecrate some lonely graveyard, and return before dawn with their booty to the door of the dissecting-room.”
This time for our New Year’s bonus classic ghost story, I’m reading Robert Louis Stevenson’s The Body Snatcher. This creepy gothic tale was inspired the famous Burke and Hare case, and the non-conformist libertine streak exhibited by one of the leads seems to lay the way for the famous horror story Stevenson would write just two years later.

25 - The Self-Isolated Christmas
No presents. No dinner. No company. He thought covid was the worst thing that could happen at Christmas. He was wrong.
This year’s chilling ghost story for Christmas comes from our very recent history. A troubling period that still haunts us, even though we’re keen to try and put it behind us. Yet bizarrely, there is still something Dickensian about this real festive tale. But I won’t spoilt it; I’ll leave it to you to see what you make of it.

24 - Master of Spiders
He thought he knew more about spiders than anyone else. But there was one secret he wished he'd never learned.
Case 223 is one of the most bizarre tales in my ghost story archive - more like something out of the realms of weird fiction when compared to my usual paranormal accounts. This could be a tough episode if you suffer arachnophobia. And this may not be an episode for fans of London Zoo either. -
23 - Opening Doors
They broke in. They made it their home. And then the building fought back.
Season three of our supernatural podcast begins with a scary story from the 1980s. It’s about squatters, people who believed in a different way of life. Not everyone will agree with their actions or their politics. What I doubt is that anyone would think that the horror they faced was in any way deserved.
