#23 - How A Ten-Day Window Screen Install Built Real Confidence

Send Us Your Questions & Feedback! What starts as a “quick” window treatment install can easily turn into a ten-day grind—and that’s where real growth happens. In this episode of No Strings Attached, I break down a real-world job that tested everything: exterior shades, multiple sliding door screens, and complex triangular window screens. The kind of project that exposes gaps in planning, materials, measuring, and labor—fast. If you’re a window treatment installer, blinds and shades professional, or interior designer, you’ll recognize the challenges immediately:  Miscalculations and reorders  Leveling issues and tricky window shapes  Underestimated labor and install time  The pressure to still deliver a clean, professional result We also talk about what doesn’t get said enough in the window covering industry—the hidden cost of saying “yes” before you feel ready. From my early days installing plantation shutters on corner windows, tackling bay windows, learning drapery installs, to selling motorized shades when automation was still new, this episode is about learning in motion. Because the truth is: you don’t grow when you feel ready—you grow when you step into jobs that stretch you. I also connect the dots between job-site decisions and investing, sharing lessons from real estate experiences in Brazil and how overthinking can slow progress. Playing it safe might keep you busy, but it can quietly cap your potential. This episode is about calculated risk, craftsmanship, and building confidence through experience—without compromising your standards. 🔑 Key Topics Covered  Window treatment installation challenges  Exterior shades and screen installations  Measuring mistakes and how to avoid them  Plantation shutters, motorized shades, and custom installs  Growth mindset for installers and small business owners  Risk-taking in business and trade work #WindowTreatments #BlindsAndShades #WindowCoverings #WindowTreatmentInstaller #ShadeInstallation #BlindInstallation #CustomWindowTreatments #ExteriorShades #MotorizedShades #PlantationShutters #ScreenInstallation #SlidingDoorShades #CustomInstalls #MeasureTwiceCutOnce #InstallerLife #TradeLife🎙️ No Strings Attached — with Roger Magalhães 🎧 This Episode Is Brought to You By BlindsOnline.com With 60+ years of combined industry expertise, BlindsOnline.com makes window shopping simple with curated products, honest advice, and straightforward pricing. 👉 Visit BlindsOnline.com ✉️ Roger’s Newsletters 📩 Trading Secrets 📩 Stories in Motion 📩 We Dress Naked Windows   📚 Upcoming Book Nobody Told Me That - Get early previews and updates. 📱 Connect With Roger 📸 Instagram 🎥 YouTube 💼 LinkedIn 📘 Facebook 💻 Website   📩 Got questions, feedback, or a story worth sharing? #22 - How I Use Stories To Market My Window Covering Business

Send Us Your Questions & Feedback! Most marketing advice tells small business owners to sound bigger, cleaner, and more “professional.” In this episode, I share why I’ve learned the opposite can be your edge—especially in the window coverings and window treatment industry, where trust matters more than hype. I take you back to 2006, when I first entered the shade business, and explain how writing blogs and email newsletters became my most reliable way to connect with clients. Not with polished ads—but with honest stories: real jobs, real lessons, real mistakes, and the kind of humor that makes people feel like they actually know you. Along the way, I talk about the unsexy foundations that made everything else possible: learning bookkeeping through a QuickBooks class, getting pulled into BNI networking, and seeing how weekly relationship-building reshapes how you think about sales, referrals, and reputation. I also share the moment personal marketing finally clicked for me—and how following Michael Katz’s work on newsletters for solo professionals pushed me to start writing consistently, even with imperfect English. That consistency opened doors, from magazine articles about the realities of installation work to a stronger writing identity inside the industry. Now I’m turning a major milestone into a new project: 20 newsletters to represent 20 years in business, plus client comments and reflections—leading into my upcoming book Nobody Told Me That. I also explain why I built RogerMagalhaes.com as a hub for my businesses and why I launched Stories In Motion to go deeper on the lessons behind the work. What You’ll Learn Why “trying to sound professional” can actually make you less memorableHow honest stories build trust faster than hype—especially in home servicesThe practical foundations that support good marketing (bookkeeping + networking)How BNI-style weekly relationship-building changes your view of referralsWhy newsletters work for solo professionals (and how to start even if it’s imperfect)How consistency creates unexpected opportunities and authorityThe idea behind my “20 newsletters for 20 years” project and my upcoming book #WindowTreatments #WindowCoverings #InteriorDesign #StoriesinMotion #HomeImprovement #SmallBusinessMarketing #Pers🎙️ No Strings Attached — with Roger Magalhães 🎧 This Episode Is Brought to You By BlindsOnline.com With 60+ years of combined industry expertise, BlindsOnline.com makes window shopping simple with curated products, honest advice, and straightforward pricing. 👉 Visit BlindsOnline.com ✉️ Roger’s Newsletters 📩 Trading Secrets 📩 Stories in Motion 📩 We Dress Naked Windows   📚 Upcoming Book Nobody Told Me That - Get early previews and updates. 📱 Connect With Roger 📸 Instagram 🎥 YouTube 💼 LinkedIn 📘 Facebook 💻 Website   📩 Got questions, feedback, or a story worth sharing? #16 - The Delta Airlines Effect: Building Customer Loyalty in the Window Covering Industry

Send Us Your Questions & Feedback! Episode Overview What does a canceled flight during a snowstorm have to do with running a successful window treatment business? Everything. In this episode, Roger shares a powerful story about loyalty, customer experience, and the choice every window treatment professional must make: compete on price or compete on value. What You'll Learn The Personal Story How Roger accidentally became a Delta loyalist (hint: it started with convenience, not intention)The Christmas 2022 snowstorm that changed everythingWhy Delta put him on a competitor's flight to take care of himThe small gestures that create lasting loyalty: handwritten notes from pilots, surprise gift cards, and VIP treatmentThe Business Lesson Why being the "cheapest option" attracts price shoppers who disappear at the first discountHow to position yourself as the "Delta Airlines" of your marketThe difference between customers and loyal clientsWhy better margins and better clients go hand-in-handHow do you want your window treatment business to be perceived in 2026? As the cheaper alternative—or as the Delta Airlines of your market? There's no wrong answer. But understand this: the cheapest option doesn't create loyalty. It creates price shoppers who question your expertise and vanish the second someone undercuts you. Being the "Delta company" means raising the bar. Charging more, yes—but also earning better margins, attracting better clients, and building relationships rooted in trust. Perfect For Window treatment installers tired of competing on priceBlind and shade dealers ready to attract premium clientsInstallation professionals who want to elevate their client experienceAnyone in the window covering industry wondering if loyalty programs actually workTrade professionals looking to end 2025 strong and start 2026 even strongerInspiring Blog: https://www.tradingupconsulting.com/building-customer-loyalty-premium-service/ Hashtags: #NoStringsAttached #TradingUpConsulting #TradingSecrets #WindowTreatment 🎙️ No Strings Attached — with Roger Magalhães 🎧 This Episode Is Brought to You By BlindsOnline.com With 60+ years of combined industry expertise, BlindsOnline.com makes window shopping simple with curated products, honest advice, and straightforward pricing. 👉 Visit BlindsOnline.com ✉️ Roger’s Newsletters 📩 Trading Secrets 📩 Stories in Motion 📩 We Dress Naked Windows 📚 Upcoming Book Nobody Told Me That - Get early previews and updates. 📱 Connect With Roger 📸 Instagram 🎥 YouTube 💼 LinkedIn 📘 Facebook 💻 Website 📩 Got questions, feedback, or a story worth sharing?
