Associate Professor of Marine Biology - Dr Cathy Lucas

Dr. Cathy Lucas is an Associate Professor of Marine Biology at the University of Southampton and one of the world’s leading experts on jellyfish. With a career spanning decades, her research has taken her across the globe, studying jellyfish species in diverse marine environments and contributing to a deeper understanding of their behavior, ecology, and impact on our oceans. Her work includes international collaborations with scientists in New Zealand, where she has been investigating jellyfish blooms and analysing global trends linked to changing ocean conditions. As climate change continues to warm our seas, Dr. Lucas is at the forefront of research exploring how these shifts are influencing jellyfish populations and what that means for marine ecosystems worldwide. Closer to home, she has been working in collaboration with The Nautilus Project in Gibraltar, monitoring jellyfish swarms and helping to provide valuable insights into how local waters are being affected. Her findings play an important role in understanding the increasing presence of jellyfish in the region and the wider environmental implications. Dr. Lucas is also preparing to take part in this year’s international jellyfish symposium in Cork, where leading scientists from around the world will come together to share research, discuss challenges, and explore future solutions. To hear more about her fascinating work, global research, and the growing impact of jellyfish in our changing oceans, tune in to this insightful podcast, proudly sponsored by The Nautilus Project. One of a Kind - Nathan Payas

Nathan Payas is the kind of person who quietly inspires everyone around him — not just through what he achieves, but through how he lives. Known for being genuinely warm, grounded, and one of the nicest people you could meet, Nathan brings heart into everything he does. A unique blend of artist and athlete, Nathan has found a powerful connection between his two passions: singing and endurance swimming. As an endurance swimmer, he has developed exceptional breath control and mental discipline — skills that naturally enhance his vocal ability. At his core, Nathan is a family man. Coming from a big, close-knit family, he credits them as his greatest source of love, strength, and support. They are the foundation behind his drive, shaping his values and fueling his determination to keep pushing forward, no matter the challenge. Proudly Gibraltarian, Nathan carries his identity with him wherever he goes. Whether he’s performing, competing, or working, he flies the Gibraltar flag with pride, representing his community with passion and authenticity. In this conversation, we’ll explore the mindset behind the man — how he sees life, where his focus comes from, and how his determination, resilience, and deep love for his family have paved his path to success. Nathan’s story is one of balance, purpose, and staying true to who you are, no matter where life takes you. This podcast is sponsored by Holland and Barrett. Hosted on Acast.
