  4. Alison Calder

    24 JAN

    Alison Calder

On this weeks episode of One For The Road we are joined by Alison Calder. Alison shares her journey to sobriety from walking into AA at the age of 24, to finally stopping drinking at the age of 39, and everything in-between. Alison talks about how working in the wine industry, and then owning her own wine company impacted her own drinking, and how she finally managed to remove alcohol completely. She puts her sobriety down to finding acceptance, creating a life she doesn’t want to escape from, bringing in strong daily non-negotiables, finding joy in the little things and living in alignment with her values. Alison has re-trained as a positive psychology coach, specialising in helping people to stop drinking, and to re-discover themselves. This involves the deep exploratory work around the reasons that people drink, how to deal with cravings and triggers, and uncovering and working through any ambivalence that people may have around alcohol. She then works to guide clients to rediscover themselves, answering the bigger questions around who they really are, what they really want, what their values are, and what brings them joy. She does this through 1-1 coaching, group coaching, group programmes and workshops. She also works with community alcohol services which has given her even more insight into alcohol, and the impact that it has on people's lives.  www.instagram.com/alisoncalderalcoholcoach www.facebook.com/alisoncaldercoaching  www.alisoncalder.com If you want to connect with me via Instagram, you can find me on the instahandle @Soberdave https://www.instagram.com/soberdave/ or via my website https://davidwilsoncoaching.com/ Provided below are links for services offering additional help and advice. www.drinkaware.co.uk/advice/alcohol-support-services https://nacoa.org.uk/ Show producer- Daniella Attanasio-Martinez Instagram - @TheDaniellaMartinez https://www.instagram.com/thedaniellamartinez/ www.instagram.com/grownuphustle Hosted on Acast. 5. Lee Anderson

    17 JAN

    Lee Anderson

On this weeks episode of One For The Road i am joined by Lee Anderson, an experienced Mindset and Wellbeing Coach, he was brought up in and around pubs where drinking was an expectation, having his first drink at 11 years old. Growing up in an environment without a dad meant he was expected to be responsible at an early age and throughout his teens and early twenties alcohol helped suppress his feelings, mask his emotions but also to make him feel more socially confident and accepted. Lee struggled with his sexuality, eventually coming out as gay in his mid twenties, got into a relationship where alcohol was a way of coping with the emotional abuse and toxic behaviour from his then partner. The breakdown of that relationship led to him losing everything he worked hard for and having to move back in with mum. He stopped drinking for a 18 months, met his now husband and outwardly life was good. Drugs and alcohol started to filter back in and life began to unravel, leading to two suicide attempts and eventually a mental breakdown. After relocated to France to start a new life his drinking became heavier and his behaviour was starting to impact his relationship and that was when he decided to go sober and repair his relationship with alcohol, he’s been sober for 4 years now and life couldn’t be better. He uses his personal and professional experience to coach, educate and support others mentally and emotionally to unlearn learnt behaviours to achieve better for themselves. Lee also hosts his own podcast called The Struggling Mind podcast where he chats to everyday people who have overcome adversity. He’s an ambassador for The Lighthouse Charity where he travels the whole of the country delivering talks to people within the construction industry about the free support available from the charity and sharing his story to inspire others to reach out for support. https://www.instagram.com/leeandersoncoaching/ https://www.leeandersoncoaching.com/ https://open.spotify.com/show/13Hx2VN9L62ta3nMto5NmH?si=d809bf1d488f45f6&nd=1&dlsi=d2719481e12a4154 If you want to connect with me via Instagram, you can find me on the instahandle @Soberdave https://www.instagram.com/soberdave/ or via my website https://davidwilsoncoaching.com/ Provided below are links for services offering additional help and advice. www.drinkaware.co.uk/advice/alcohol-support-services https://nacoa.org.uk/ Show producer- Daniella Attanasio-Martinez Instagram - @TheDaniellaMartinez https://www.instagram.com/thedaniellamartinez/ www.instagram.com/grownuphustle Hosted on Acast. 6. Abigail Burrows

    10 JAN

    Abigail Burrows

On this weeks episode of One For The Road i am joined by Abigail Burrows, a professional flute player, admits that she’s never had a healthy relationship with alcohol and started drinking at a very young age. She was an exceptionally talented child and was offered a place at a specialist music school aged 8. She had a busy international performing career throughout her childhood but in her late teens, she was drinking very heavily to cope with burn-out and guilt, unable to play the flute anymore and dropping out of the Royal College of Music.  Later in life she returned to music and even managed to stop drinking for 5 ½ years. Celebrating this achievement with a glass of champagne, she believed her bad drinking habits had been due to being young and stupid, but after that drink, her life unravelled almost immediately, and it took her 10 years to get sober again. Her drinking took a particularly dark turn after her father died of alcoholism.  Abbie is now over 1 year sober and she’s never been happier. She owes her recovery to an amazing charity called Music Support who help people working in the music and live events industry.  https://www.instagram.com/abbieflutes www.abigailburrows.com Music Support is a registered charity that helps anyone who works in the UK music industry experiencing substance use, addiction and/or mental health challenges. Find out more about their work at www.musicsupport.org. The charity is hosting “Understanding Addiction and Embracing Recovery: The Classical Edition,” a webinar in partnership with the Royal Society of Musicians on Blue Monday, 20th January, from 6pm – 730pm. It will feature Abbie and Music Support Trustee and cellist, Rachael Lander (a previous guest on my podcast). This special session that will also include a workshop on the neuroscience of addiction and pathways to recovery is suitable for anyone who works in the UK music industry (and their family and friends). 7. Donna Francis

    3 JAN

    Donna Francis

Happy New Year and welcome back to One For The Road. We are kicking off 2025 with Donna Francis who is an award-winning British Beauty Editor living in Florida with her family. Growing up in Islington, North London, Donna's happiest memories were at her family friends' pub, where she would celebrate new year's eve and birthdays. She wasn’t a heavy drinker in her teens or twenties, but continued the family tradition of making sure everyone’s 'glass was full’ - it was how she expressed her love. Drinking became a problem during perimenopause which hit during the pandemic. The stresses of family issues and freelance life encouraged Donna to drink more, even though she knew that couldn’t tolerate it. After experiencing too many intoxicated nights that finished with vomiting and blackouts she had enough. Donna is now 6 months sober and loves sharing her sober stories and advice to her community on social media. https://www.instagram.com/thebeautyed/?hl=en https://www.tiktok.com/@thebeautyed?lang=en https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/smiling-gives-you-wrinkles/id1725957283 If you want to connect with me via Instagram, you can find me on the instahandle @Soberdave https://www.instagram.com/soberdave/ or via my website https://davidwilsoncoaching.com/ Provided below are links for services offering additional help and advice. www.drinkaware.co.uk/advice/alcohol-support-services https://nacoa.org.uk/ Show producer- Daniella Attanasio-Martinez Instagram - @TheDaniellaMartinez https://www.instagram.com/thedaniellamartinez/ www.instagram.com/grownuphustle Hosted on Acast.
