Excellent chemistry

Famously (ha ha ha), the dynamic between James, Kay and Boyd feels authentic and fun. The reviews are sharp. This podcast makes Monday bearable.
Err… Who anybody?

This show is only good for knowing what’s coming up and to be fair it does have good (if very sycophantic) interviews). But if you want balanced reviews of shows look elsewhere as it’s absent here. What I find most annoying is that we recently had to listen to Boyd wax lyrical about Dr. Who. This was annoying for several reasons not least that there is a loose mantra of not reviewing shows that are several seasons in and yet here we are at season 2/14/41 and it was mentioned weekly. Boyd is clearly a fan of and perhaps more importantly a friend of RTD so he is perhaps biased. The annoying part is that having given his reviews he has totally ignored the failure of this show in its Disney+ era and not one word on its cancellation or hiatus due to poor reception. And yet he displays apologetic smugness at the news of other shows being cancelled. Other than this I do find the podcast can often be guilty of not being truthful. In the case of She Hulk all three presenters claimed to like it. I find it odd that something so actively disliked by the majority was a wholesale hit with the team. The bottom line is that this show is sometimes entertaining, often annoying and at times feels compromised.
Plotting my TV choices!

Like Kermode and Mayo this is as much about the content as the producers. James, jay and Boyd film the reviews with irrelevant comedy and chat. It works.
Essential Listening

Finally prompted to review this excellent podcast so that James can stop nagging Kay about Pat Val cake (although surely a man who can review TV shows whilst up a ladder wielding a chain saw could turn his hand to whipping up a delicious cake himself). Came to this pod via hearing James plugging it on the Empire film podcast (also great). So much content now available and this helps you pick the gems from the detritus. Entertaining banter and a breadth of TV knowledge and interests among the team, you soon learn where your taste aligns and that helps you narrow down the search for your next must watch. Grateful to Kay for flagging up the joyous Girls 5 Eva (warning the earworms will stay with you) and without her foreign correspondent skills would never have found the excellent Lidia Poet. My new favourite podcast.
