Story Behind The Numbers - Stephen Warnock

Story Behind The Numbers - Stephen Warnock

Stephen Warnock played for Liverpool at a transformative time in English top-flight football. He was at the club when Rafael Benitez arrived, a manager who along with Jose Mourinho ushered in an elite era of controlled defensive play which brought Liverpool the Champions League title in 2005 and a UEFA Super Cup later that year, a game which Stephen was on the bench for.

The late 2000s were a time when football clubs started to experiment with using data to enhance both training and recruitment. Contemporary football sees Liverpool as one of the world’s leading clubs and arguably the leading club in world football when it comes to integrating data and analytics throughout all levels of the club.

In this second special episode of ‘Story Behind the Numbers’, brought to you by Think Markets, Official Trading Partner of Liverpool Football Club, Stephen Warnock joins Duncan Alexander and Graham Bell, to discuss his career and how the evolution of the full back, and football overall, has changed since he debuted for his hometown club.

This episode is brought to you by the Official Partner of Liverpool Football Club, Think Markets, a globally recognised online broker. Head to thinkmarkets.team for more information. All trading comes with risk. Please ensure you fully understand the risks before trading.

Story Behind The Numbers - Steve McManaman

Story Behind The Numbers - Steve McManaman

Back in the 1995-1996 Premier League season, Steve McManaman assisted 15 Premier League goals for Liverpool. Little did we know at the time that only two players had done so before him and Frank Lampard is the only English player to have done so since.

That campaign remains one of Liverpool’s finest and most overlooked seasons in the Premier League era, one where Steve McManaman was the driving creative force in a side who came much closer to the title than people remember.

In this special episode of ‘Story Behind the Numbers’, brought to you by Think Markets, Official Trading Partner of Liverpool Football Club, Steve McManaman joins Duncan Alexander and Graham Bell to discuss how football in the 1990s was different to the present day, how close-knit that team was and look at his rise to become arguably the most naturally creative English midfield of the 1990s.
