Ep 16: The Declutter Episode (Out With The Old, In With The New)

I am genuinely mid-declutter right now, not preaching from some sorted, together place. Between moving back from Australia, living with my parents again, and juggling four contract roles plus dog walking and pole teaching, my brain has been overwhelmed — and this episode is the five-part audit I've actually been running to get some clarity back. I used to think a tidy home meant a boring life. Turns out my best friend Laura was right all along: your outer world reflects your inner world. So here's where I've been finding my energy leaks: 1. Physical: the Vinted haul, the floordrobe, and the "does this make me feel rich?" test (thank you, Denise Duffield-Thomas) - plus why I say thank you to things before they go in the bin 2. Financial: my (self-coined) "financial declutter," consolidating scattered pensions, tracking spending with Tori Dunlap's "how did this purchase make me feel" method, and finally facing the bills I used to bury my head in the sand about 3. Diary: using Clockify to actually see where my time goes, auditing standing commitments, and swapping "I don't have time" for "I'm not prioritising that" 4. People: Aristotle's friends of utility, pleasure, and the good, and why letting a friendship fade doesn't invalidate what it once was 5. Digital: my new-laptop storage disaster (rookie error: I migrated everything instead of starting fresh) and the CVs from when I was 20 that still need deleting Backed by real psychology throughout - Sabine Kastner on visual clutter and cognitive load, Darby Saxbe on clutter and cortisol, and the habit research showing 43% of what we do is autopilot, not choice. This isn't a "declutter everything by Sunday" episode. It's about picking one leak at a time and building from a clear foundation instead of a rocky one. Awareness first, then action. (ps yes my title is a High School Musical reference)
