SKS is exactly what true crime reporting should be. Engaging and interesting without being salacious or exploitative. Detailed and thorough without being dull. It brings to life victims, families and even (potential and convicted) perpetrators in a way that makes the stories really hit home. Thank you, David and team!

Every last pointless cup de sac stretched to breaking point

The host comes across as pleasant enough and has a nice broadcast voice, but this strikes me as yet another podcast where a non-existent mystery is stretched paper-thin into umpteen episodes. In series one a small child who couldn’t swim goes missing by lake; sometimes there really is no mystery. I also wonder about the ethics of making this. A family’s hopes are raised then dashed and who knows what emotions stirred up for the sake of an ultimately futile investigation. In the Christine Heron series, the worrying fact that this could be yet another suggestible with man with learning difficulties being stitched up by the police is never even raised. Back in the day, journalists used to do their research, go down dead ends etc and then put together a story with all the lines that went nowhere cut out. These days journalists make us listen to every last spit and whistle — it’s exceptionally boring and lazy. I’m surprised the host doesn’t interview himself and put out an episode about how he and his team didn’t kill the victim.

I found this story compelling and David’s voice pleasant to listen to. As a mother I felt outraged on Marie’s behalf at the way she was treated so dismissively by the lazy and incompetent police who treated her with callous disregard throughout. From the off they refused to listen to her and wasted valuable time when they continued to insist that she was a runaway against the instincts of a frantic mother who knew better. That they seemingly couldn’t be bothered to search the area with fine toothed combs to look for Christie’s remains is unbelievable and contemptuous behaviour. The undercover surveillance episode was a genius move and harrowing to listen to . Without David’s documentary nothing would have progressed. Thank you for an excellent Podcast
