Paper Heron

In this fictional sound story, Effie, a teenage girl working in the rag room at a paper mill on the River Exe in 1851, gets the chance to go to up to London to see the Great Exhibition at Crystal Palace. Her mind is blown and secret dreams begin to crystallise. She confides in a heron, who proves to be an excellent listener. This work was commissioned by Double Elephant as part of their Paper & Print project exploring the history of papermaking in Devon, funded by the National Heritage Lottery Fund. Written, narrated and produced by Ellen Wiles. Sound design by Nicholas Allen and Ellen Wiles.
