Strangers on a Bench

Have you ever walked past a mysterious stranger on a park bench and wondered about their lives? Tom Rosenthal (singer-songwriter by trade) has spent the last 6 months walking the many parks of London, approaching random bench-dwellers and asking if he can sit next to them and record their conversation. Every stranger remains anonymous, neither name or place of work is ever revealed (even to Tom himself), leading to greater openness, intimacy, and surprising revelations from the participants. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
My new favorite podcast

I absolutely love this podcast, it brings me a renewed faith in humanity and a fresh curiosity and perspective of the people I see throughout my day. It’s a delightfully simple concept and Tom is a fantastic interviewer. I really hope he doesn’t get big and slowly start collaborating with PR people or interviewing famous people! The best part (aside from the incredible songs at the end of each episode) is that it’s random, anonymous, everyday people. Such a treat, thank you Tom and everyone involved — I love this show.

It is rare to hear an interview where the interviewer is so good at listening. Gentle, thoughtful, funny and poignant.

Great at first until the host wants to be the star

I loved this at first. So fascintating, however the host now seems to be making the show about him, butting in and trying to make a joke every 2 minutes. The last episode with the kiwi lady I felt was insensitive. The first few are great. The star should be the stranger and the host the facilitator of the story.
