More than just an excellent NJPW podcast.

UPDATE 8th May 2019 - My five star rating remains unchanged, although know that it would be a Meltzer-special seven stars if possible, but I would like to add that these days, I listen for the irreverent tangents and hypothetical journeys that Joel and Damon take us on and any talk about NJPW is a bonus! In all seriousness, I can’t find fault in what Damon and Joel are doing, and since my last review, the community the two have built makes me proud to be a part of it. Big love for the Super J-Cast, Joel and Damon, and the whole community! Dan.

Back when the announcement dropped of the old Purocast ceasing production, it upset me because I found it the only podcast that I really took to when it came to NJPW. When the then unnamed J-Cast dropped a month later with Joel as the new host, I was initially unsure about it, but since then, all my minimum expectations have been far surpassed and this pod has now become one of my absolute favourites in my extensive podcast library.

I’m glad Damon is continuing with the show because he was always the real driving force and the catalyst of conversation previously, but Joel also brings a whole other dimension to the podcast which was previously untapped, and I think the two of them together display an excellent natural chemistry which makes for fantastic listening.

What I love about the pod and the duo is that they’ve now built a community centred around the pod and the discussions among the community are just like a group of friends (shout out to the #FantasyFootballSquad). It really is a great community to be a part of and the podcast exemplifies all of the above great feedback.

In respect to the Big Meltz, if I could rate this podcast seven stars, I would, but the five is more than deserved.

Keep up the great work, chaps!

Dan Glozier.

Came for the crisps, stayed for the wrestling

The English host loves crisps, ZSJ, lychee flavoured Strong Zeroes and hates the Tories (it’s a shame he is not from the North but you can’t have everything!). The American host loves crisps, booze and britpop (even Menswe@r!). At some point, possibly about 2/3’s in, they will talk about New Japan Pro Wrestling. This is my “Sleeper” podcast of the year, an “Oasis” of excellence in the “Blur” of the podcast world and is simply “a Different Class” to anything else out there. Would I recommend it? Definitely (no maybe).
