    Ep. 99 Why Canvas?

    Why canvas? In a world of ultralight fabrics, synthetic materials, and gear designed to be replaced every few years, Canvas Cutter keeps coming back to a material that has been trusted outdoors for generations. In this episode of The Cutter Cast, Seth and Schafer dig into why canvas remains at the heart of what we build, what makes it so well suited for life outdoors, and why we believe old materials still have a place when they are paired with modern construction. They talk durability, breathability, weather resistance, repairability, comfort, and the way good canvas gets better with age instead of simply wearing out. They also get into the tradeoffs. Canvas is not always the lightest option, and it is not the right material for every application. But when durability, longevity, and dependability matter, there is a reason it has stuck around. More than anything, this conversation is about the philosophy behind Canvas Cutter. We are not interested in using canvas simply because it feels nostalgic. We use it because, in the right application, it still works incredibly well. Traditional materials. Modern construction. Gear built to be used hard, trusted often, and passed down.

    Ep. 97: The Advantage Most Hunters Are Ignoring

    Hunters will spend thousands of dollars on rifles, bows, optics, boots, packs, and clothing, then crawl into a terrible sleep system and wonder why they’re dragging by day three. In this episode of the Cutter Cast, Seth and Schafer dig into one of the most overlooked parts of hunting performance: sleep. They break down what actually happens when you stack early mornings, long glassing sessions, hard miles, elevation, cold weather, and several nights of poor sleep on top of each other. Fatigue doesn’t just make you tired. It affects reaction time, focus, judgment, decision-making, recovery, and your ability to get up and do it all again the next morning. They also talk about why sleeping at elevation can be harder, how comfort and insulation affect recovery, and why your sleep system should be treated with the same seriousness as the rest of your hunting gear. Most of us wait all year for a handful of days in the mountains. Don’t spend them exhausted.

    In this episode of Behind the Canvas, Seth sits down with Canvas Cutter COO and co-owner Schafer Summers to share the story of who Schafer was before Canvas Cutter, how he found his way into the company, and what he discovered once he got behind the scenes. Schafer talks about his upbringing, the work he was doing before joining the team, and the decision that changed the direction of his life. They look back on Schafer’s evolving role, the products and systems he has helped build, and some of the biggest wins the company has experienced.
