Dominic Littlewood on Making Tax Digital: What It Means for Small Businesses (and Why It’s Not as Scary as You Think)

Send us Fan Mail Big changes to tax can often feel overwhelming… especially when they’re described as the biggest shake-up in nearly 30 years.  But in the latest episode of The MarshyCast, consumer champion Dominic Littlewood joins me to explain why Making Tax Digital might actually be a positive step for small business owners.  At its core, the move is about modernising the way tax is managed. Instead of last-minute stress and piles of paperwork, the system is designed to help businesses stay on top of things in real time. And according to Dominic, once you get your head around it, it can genuinely save both time and money.  One of the biggest misconceptions is around penalties. There’s a fear that one small mistake could lead to instant fines. In reality, there’s a built-in safety net… with three warnings before any kind of penalty is issued. It’s designed to guide people into the system, not catch them out.  We also talked about how these changes might feel particularly daunting for older people or those less comfortable with digital systems. That concern is very real… but so is the support available. From guidance to tools and advice, there are ways to make the transition much smoother than many might expect.  Ultimately, this is about taking something that feels complicated… and making it simpler over time.  🎧 You can listen to the full conversation now on The MarshyCast, available on Apple, Spotify and wherever you get your podcasts.  Find me on all social media @paulswampymarsh

Michael & Hilary Whitehall: Easter Eggs, World Tours… and a Bit of Portsmouth Love

Send us Fan Mail  🐣 Michael & Hilary Whitehall: Easter Eggs, World Tours… and a Bit of Portsmouth Love  There are some double acts that just work… and then there’s Michael Whitehall and Hilary Whitehall.  Best known to many as the brilliantly entertaining parents of Jack Whitehall, the pair joined me on The MarshyCast for a conversation that quickly turned into something between a travel diary, a family debate… and a masterclass in dry humour.  We started with a very important question. Are you ever really too old to receive an Easter egg? Their answer… not at all. Although, as they explained, there are rules. If it gets too expensive, don’t be surprised if they expect to buy it back off you.  Naturally, the conversation drifted into their “worldwide” tour… which, it turns out, comes with some fairly strict geographical limits. Let’s just say they’re happiest when it doesn’t stray too far north.  There were also tales of travel mishaps, including a moment involving Singapore and Australia that proves even the most seasoned travellers can get things slightly… misplaced.  Beyond the laughs, we also talked about family, performance, and the unique dynamic they bring to the stage together. It’s that mix of warmth and wonderfully dry wit that’s made them such a hit with audiences.  And in a lovely moment closer to home, they also shared their fondness for Portsmouth… which, of course, went down very well.  If you’re after a conversation that feels like sitting in on a very funny family chat… this one’s well worth your time.  🎧 Listen now on The MarshyCast, available on Apple, Spotify and wherever you get your podcasts.  Find me on all social media @paulswampymarsh

Ryan & Rory on UK Fans, C2C and Why a Lawn Chair Might Be All You Need

Send us Fan Mail There’s something special happening between UK audiences and country music right now… and if you needed proof, look no further than Ryan & Rory.  Fresh from performing at Country to Country, the duo joined me on The MarshyCast to talk about their experience playing to British crowds… and one moment stood out above everything else. Hearing fans across the UK singing their songs word for word.  For artists travelling thousands of miles from home, that kind of connection hits differently. And it’s something Ryan & Rory were genuinely blown away by.  We also got into their music, including one of their most eye-catching song titles, Lawn Chair in the Living Room. It sparked a conversation that will probably resonate with a lot of listeners… because, as we discovered, sometimes all you really need is a comfy chair, a TV and a games console. Simple pleasures done right.  Looking ahead, there’s plenty of excitement about what comes next. The duo shared their hopes for returning to the UK for a full tour, something that feels less like a possibility… and more like a matter of when.  And of course, we also talked about their latest release, Wasn’t Thinkin’, giving fans another taste of what they do best… honest, relatable country music with a modern edge.  If their reaction to UK crowds is anything to go by, this is a relationship that’s only just getting started.  🎧 You can listen to the full conversation now on The MarshyCast, available on Apple, Spotify and wherever you get your podcasts.  Find me on all social media @paulswampymarsh

Joseph Millson on Empire of Lies: Two Characters, One Truth… or None at All?

Send us Fan Mail Joseph Millson on Empire of Lies: Two Characters, One Truth… or None at All?  There’s something quietly bold about a film that strips everything back. No sprawling cast, no distractions… just two characters, one setting, and a story that leans entirely on tension, dialogue and trust. That’s exactly what Empire of Lies sets out to do.  In the latest episode of The MarshyCast, I sat down with Joseph Millson to talk about the film, which he also co-wrote alongside director Matthew Hope. The result is a tightly wound psychological drama where every line matters… and every silence might mean even more.  One of the most fascinating aspects of the film is its simplicity on paper. Just two characters. But as Joseph explains, that’s exactly where the challenge lies. With nowhere to hide, the performances have to carry everything. And that’s where Natalie Spence comes in, bringing a presence that constantly keeps the audience guessing.  We also explore how the characters come to know each other, and how their relationship slowly unfolds in a world shaped by conspiracy and uncertainty. It’s a film that plays with perspective… asking the audience to question what’s real, what’s manipulation, and whether the truth is ever fully within reach.  Of course, there’s one big challenge when talking about a film like this… the twist. And without spoiling anything, let’s just say it’s the kind of ending that reframes everything you thought you knew.  Joseph also opens up about how involved he was on set, having written the film, and what he ultimately hopes audiences take away from it. Is it about truth? Control? Or simply the stories we choose to believe?  One thing’s for sure… Empire of Lies isn’t a film that gives you easy answers. And that’s exactly what makes it linger.  🎧 You can hear the full conversation now on The MarshyCast, available on Apple, Spotify and wherever you get your podcasts.  Find me on all social media @paulswampymarsh
