Unironically, unequivocally, this is the best meme podcast on the internet.
The hosts adopt layer upon layer of parody, resulting in what is almost a cipher made of meme culture. The overt normality of the podcast format is juxtaposed with its absurdist humour and satire masterfully.
Although I may be reading into it too much, it could be said that Tony is trying to appeal to both an inexperienced, naive audience and an Internet-hardened, sceptical audience at the same time - and he does so with grace. At times, he slips, he breaks character, and he loses sight of what his intentions are. (Interestingly, I never picked this up in any of his Instagram videos.)
However, he quickly regains focus and guides the listener on a journey that can be taken two ways - as a podcast about memes, or as a cutting criticism about the elitism of some sections of the internet.
This podcast hasn't just made me laugh - it also helped me develop my conclusion. That trying to section off memes isn't the right way to approach the concept of sharing, in fact, it goes against the entire idea of memes themselves. Tony's reference to people who don't get the memes as 'normies' further intensifies this hyperbole of hatred for anyone who doesn't understand exactly what we're talking about.
Okay, it's actually 2:30 AM where I live, and I need to be up at 6. I'll conclude by just saying that this podcast is fr*cking epic, bro.
And if you don't agree, you're a normie.
