Always top quality

I’ve yet to find a Wondery podcast I don’t like. I had zero interest in vaping, smoking, big tobacco...but the journalism and storytelling is so strong...it’s fascinating.
Easy to listen to, gripping, and full of information.

Had to Stop Listening

I gave this podcast a fair chance, but had to quit listening mid-way through episode 5.

I’m really not stoked on the ‘journalism’ that went into making this. From the narrative, the interviews and the general scope of this podcast, it seems pretty clear that the producers were desperate to pursue some kind of ‘evil corporation’ angle for the mass appeal. However, in actually making this podcast the producers/journalists really couldn’t find the substance to make that stick, so ending up making a fairly confusing podcast with no witch to burn at the end of the hunt.

It seems to me like the company did virtually nothing wrong except for get mired in the usual reactive and short-sited ‘controversies’ that come with both the vaping industry and being a disruptor.

People love to blame, and it feels like these podcast makers thought they could get some cheap listens by demonising this company, but everything about this podcast misses the bigger picture and just repeats the cycle of hair-trigger-litigation and media tunnel-vision.

Don’t listen if you appreciate any subtleties in business, philosophy, entrepreneurship and positive change.

Do listen if you’re happy to accept any opinion given to you by journalists and media outlets who will, instead of applying objective; rational & intelligent investigation, do their best to turn every story into a scandal because it gets more clicks.
