I have been an avid listener to both This is Love and Criminal for many years. I have just listened to the 100th episode and that is the most beautiful podcast you have ever done. Well done. Your mum sounded like a wonderful person and your relationship is inspirational. I’m sorry she’s gone.

I’ve been a huge fan of Criminal for many years, that as soon as This is Love was launched I’ve been a devoted listener. Both are so heartening and open minds to different ways of approaching and understanding crime and love. The 100th episode about the passing of Phoebe’s mother was a pivotal one for me, personally. I rarely leave reviews, but felt compelled to share after listening to this particular one. Phoebe, I’m so sorry for the loss you experience, and I’m glad that you got to spend that time with your mother and so grateful that you shared it with us. I have had a complicated relationship with my mum for most of my adult life, and I’ve been experiencing what can only be described as an emotional blockage and a challenge to reconcile the mother who raised me with the one I have a relationship with as an adult. This episode unplugged that blockage and a backlog of emotion. I feel I may be able to forgive and engage authentically with my mother and appreciate how little my grievances will matter when she’s gone. By walking us through your experience, you allow us the rarest of opportunities to come the tiniest bit close to connecting with what it may feel like to lose someone, from the privileged position of still having them.
