Til Dice Do Us Part

Ailsa Longmuir & George Quail

A tabletop RPG podcast by a nerdy couple from Glasgow, Scotland. We aim to introduce you to new games (both mainstream and indie), support storytellers with our Ask A GM feature, and amuse you with quizzes and Python-esque silliness.  Ailsa is a mainly lawful, occasionally chaotic player, and lover of all things strange and unusual. George is the long-suffering forever GM with over 20 years experience of running a vast array of games. Plus we have a menagerie of strange creatures living with us who occasionally pop in to say hello.  Email: tildicepodcast@gmail.com  Facebook: /tildicepodcast  Bluesky: @tildicepodcast.bsky.social  Instagram: @tildicepodcast

Episode 36: Prideful Play & Lesbian Liabilities

“Back once again with the renegade (games-)master", it's a new episode of Til Dice Do Us Part for the first time in quite a while!  Our Pride Month special starts with a section on Queer Themes In Roleplaying Games.  We discuss how LGBTQIA+ history intersects with roleplaying games - setting the scene for how world history developed alongside gaming - and then explore how players and GMs can (and should!) include queer characters and topics in your sessions. A big inspiration for this section was They Came To Slay by Thom James Carter. After that, it's an Elevator Pitch for that most sapphic of subjects, most gay of games - Thirsty Sword Lesbians by April Kit Walsh.  We'll explain what we like about the system, the kind of games you can play with it, how practical it is to play if you're not a lesbian, and what happened when we ran it with our group... Oh, and why the obvious place for our podcast to take this subject to is.... a British DIY store? Finally there's a third bonus section to make up for the long gap since the last episode - an Unboxing in which Ailsa cracks open a blind bag of random dice from Mystery Dice Goblin.  What toys await inside the pack?  What non-dice items are found inside?  And how the hell do we do an unboxing sequence of a purely visual set of items in an audio medium? There's a variety of other bits filling out this almost 2 hour long bumper episode.  Find out if Twike's come to terms with the death of Twitter!  Hear scandalous stories of 90s game developer's personal lives!  Receive an explanation of how you formally become bisexual in Scotland, and who gives you your official approval!  Marvel at how few ice cream flavours British people have!  All this, and there's even time for an advert break in which our resident monster hunter Sobek Strathclyde invites us to join him on the search for Edinburgh's most horrible creature. Episode 35: Price Postulations & Taste Testing

We couldn't let 2023 end without giving you another episode - even if George has been haunted by some ill tidings of late - and so here we are with a rather chaotic episode we hope you'll still enjoy.   First up is a Quiz, where George once again asks Ailsa to guess the prices of the random nerdy tat he has purchased.  (With a slight twist, this time - only 6 items are actually purchased, the seventh is a sort of red herring!)  Join in on our social media to see the pictures of the items and work out if you would want to be the owner of some of them too - and if Ailsa thinks George was ripped off..... After that we have a first (and possibly only) appearance of Twike's Tasty Treatoes as a real, honest to goodness section of the podcast.  Yes, the Social Media Goblin herself is in charge of a chunk of this episode and has some food and drink for Ailsa and George to try - and frankly, it has more RPG content than the previous section, so who can complain? Along the way you'll find out what happened to Beboke the Goblin; discover what animal is used in the Inch High Incel's vitamin supplements; question if we could have done more to edit the chewing out; made a reference to Cleopatra (the girl group, not the queen) and hopefully had a bit of fun after a long period of no Til Dice activity. We hope you have a wonderful Christmas and New Year!  We hope to produce more content in 2024 for you all. Episode 34: Family Gaming & Faux Fairy Tales

Our usual podcasting pair becomes a talking troika in this episode, as we are joined by education writer and RPG creator DC Bradshaw.  With his help we aim to answer an Ask A GM in which the listener enquires about introducing roleplaying games to an audience of children and how you can tailor your rules and setting towards them.  Since DC Bradshaw has written his very own D&D-for-kids version of 5E, "Little But Fierce", he's the perfect person to help us answer this question - even if he visits the podcast by a slightly unorthodox transport method After that, it's a Til Dice staple in the form of a  Quiz.  But with three people in the room the format changes up - George and Ailsa must team up to answer questions posed to them by their guest, who has brought ten lines of RPG game text that have been bowdlerized into something more "family friendly".  Can the Til Dice Team work out what the games in question are and roughly what the sentence should be?  What games have fluffy bunnies, chocolate milk and Cyril Sneer been inserted into?  Along the way you can expect the usual mish-mash of in-jokes, references, side-rambles and flensing knives.  Find out which member of the Til Dice team has to be a stand-in Carol Smillie, who deals with the Inch-High Incel when he interrupts three people simultaneously, what colours of box the 80s D&D starter sets came in, and what Twike's important question to ask a guest is.  On top of all that, this episode's sponsored segment sees Acerarak the Demilich makes a return - and he wants to take five children into a world of pure imagination. Episode 33: Caledonian Campaigns & Edinburgh Escapades

“The best laid schemes o’ mice an’ men gang aft agley", as Robert Burns once said, but we've just about managed to get an episode published for January.  Join the gang at Til Dice Towers as we talk roleplaying games but also Scotland in this latest Ask A GM - with Graeme from Vancouver asking us what is the most Scottish roleplaying game.  That's a surprisingly complex question.  What great games are written about Scotland?  What great games are written by Scots?  What fictional properties and characters are more Scottish than you think?  Join us for some patriotic patter. Then you can join us on our Edinburgh Travelogue.  We are nipping across to the East side of Scotland and its capital city to have a wander around the historical monuments and nerdy shops as we take you on a trip through the city we are forced to admit is prettier than Glasgow.  We'll tell you what Edinburgh Castle is built on top of, take shelter in Black Lion Games from a depressing familiar face, and even find time to give some food reviews. Along the way you will learn the answer to questions like: what connects Tony Blair and James Bond?  What author of "Scotch" fiction did George pick a fight with on Twitter?  What street in Edinburgh is the Mailer Daemon determined to visit?  Who arrives at our door to be our first footer?  Most importantly of all, what Antipodean Adventurer has got a slot in our advert break to tell you all about his hunt for the most famous of Scottish cryptids?  Crikey! Episode 32: Vehicle Viewpoints & Theme-Park Trauma

After slaving away at a hot laptop, George and Ailsa bring you a bumper episode out of Til Dice Towers just in time for Christmas.  Why not download this while you are travelling home to see family or friends and hear us talking about... well, travelling, as we discuss World Building and how the differing methods of getting around your campaign world can have a whole lot of knock-on effects on the rest of your game.  Such Christmas-y topics as Icelandic volcanoes,  methods of transport the Simpsons ruined and rock songs about time dilation.  Plus you can find out which member of our cast doesn't travel well by sea. After that it's into one of our Elevator Pitch segments which comes with a content warning for suicide, human remains and child endangerment.  Here, we take time out of being stuck in a theme park to tell you about a roleplaying game that's about being stuck in a theme park.  The game is The Happiest Apocalypse On Earth by Christopher Grey, and we're here to give you some insight on the game from having both read and played it. Along the way we'll catch up with some of our extended cast to find out what they've been up to, discuss the favourite feel good comedy of the Nether Realms, some love for Figment the Dragon, some worrying Secret Santa presents that are perhaps less useful than we'd like, and even a little bonus Christmas gift for our listeners in the form of an extra segment. Plus a sponsored segment with one of our cast giving you a taster of the second series of their own show with a pretty dreadful guest star from the Domains of Dread. Episode 31: City Musings & Capital Wanderings

OK, this trip to London didn't go quite as planned... this episode has been edited in London City Airport while the Til Dice gang awaits the release of the Mailer Daemon from a crime he absolutely definitely did commit.  Still, we recorded some stuff beforehand that we can share with you, including this World Building discussion on the topic of cities.  They are an integral part of our real life and also our fiction - so here's some tips to help you design cities that are hopefully as worthy of adventure as Ankh-Morpork, Lankhmar, Greyhawk and... Aberdeen?   Along the way are all the references you can expect from a serious RPG podcast - you know, stuff like Hachikō and licensed brothels and why you need strong drill bits to put a curtain rail up in a Glasgow house. Then our roadshow episode gets even more on the road as we share with you our London Travelogue. We give you our thoughts from some parts of the city that may be of interest to our listeners.  This includes discussing some of the local geek and gaming shops like Leisure Games and Orc's Nest, but also some of the other sights that we think of as interesting or inspiring.  We aren't doing it alone either - Tuppy shares her thoughts on which department store has the worst decor, the Mailer Daemon recalls the best thing Aleister Crowley ever did, and Twike is too busy freaking out about London problems to tell us about someone who has been following us on all our socials. On top of that you've got references to art of both the classy and non-classy variety, a tirade about the opening hours of chocolate shops on bank holidays, some political commentary from Tuppy on Border Force, the appearance of a strangely familiar sounding voice behind a till, and even a little cut back to Scotland to see what the team at Shoved Granny Games are working on... and what it doesn't have any of.
