I do mix it up a bit however by covering new, old, cult, forgotten, unknown, good, bad and ugly movies... Usually all in the same episode. While I will touch upon the popular films of the day, I'll also try my hardest to introduce you to something you didn't know about.It might be a good thing you didn't know about it, but that's a different story entirely.     OBEX 8-bits of love

    This week Nona and myself head out on a text based adventure to the land of Obex Set in 1987 and shot in monochrome, OBEX is a surreal lo-fi fantasy adventure with a cautionary tale about living life through a screen. The world premiere took place at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival where IndieWire called it “Eraserhead meets The Legend of Zelda.” Conor Marsh lives a secluded life with his dog, Sandy, until one day he begins playing OBEX, a new, state-of-the-art computer game. When Sandy disappears, the line between reality and gaming blurs, and Conor must enter the world of OBEX to save her. OBEX is a fantasy-adventure feature from the creative-mind of Albert Birney; writer and director of Strawberry Mansion (2021). Co-written by Pete Ohs (Erupcja), it stars Birney alongside Callie Hernandez (Jethica) and Frank Mosley (Rent Free). The score was recorded by Josh Dibb, founding member of experimental rock band Animal Collective.     Last time Mark(100 things we learned from film) was on, we talked about Thatcher, this time it's amazingly someone even worse than Thatcher. In fact, we're having a hard time trying to figure out who could be worse than this guy Based on the award-winning, bestselling book ‘At the Wolf’s Table’ by Rosella Postorino, The Tasters reconstructs the true story of the women coerced into being food tasters for Adolf Hitler towards the end of World War II. In 2012, at the age of 95, a woman named Margot Wölk revealed that she had been one of the young German women forced to taste Hitler's meals at his hiding spot known as the 'Wolf's Lair'. Until then, no one had ever known about the existence of the food tasters and Margot Wölk was the only one among them to survive the end of the war. Her story inspired Rosella Postorino to write At the Wolf’s Table, which in turn inspired the script for The Tasters. Directed by Silvio Soldini (Days and Clouds, Two Lives), The Tasters stars Elisa Schlott (Our Miracle Years, The Empress), Max Riemelt (Sense8, Two To One, Berlin Syndrome) and Alma Hasun (The Glory of Life, Corsage).     Captain J joins me to play with our action figures and talk about a scary movie DOLLY stars Fabianne Therese (John Dies At The End), Russ Tiller (Blood For Dust), Eve Blackhurst, Michalina Scorzelli, Kate Cobb (Okie) with Ethan Suplee (My Name Is Earl) and Seann William Scott (American Pie) and introducing Max The Impaler as the physically imposing eponymous antagonist. The film's first incarnation was the short film, Babygirl, and now the feature length DOLLY is the hulking and brooding realised vision of Rod Blackhurst, serving as a tribute to the classic 70s slashers, whilst adding its own spin on the genre.     Me and our Joe put on a little fill-um and enjoy life a little bit more because of it, even if Graysome White is in it This sweet and uplifting Irish road movie from filmmaker Michael Head (Bermondsey Tales: Fall of the Roman Empire) packs in the laughs as it follows Dermot (Brenock O’Connor) and Elvis (Owen Colgan), two music lovers who run a struggling record shop in Omagh, Northern Ireland. Facing an unpaid rent bill and their vicious landlord Sadie (Derry Girls’ Tara Lynne O’Neill), who’s eager to get them out of her building, the pair stumble across a deal too good to be true: rare, vintage records of blues legend Robert Johnson for sale in Cork at a knock-down price. If they can make it to the other end of Ireland in time, then maybe they could get the rare vinyl, and save the shop… With just two days to get there the pair head off in a rusty Vauxhall as old as the hills. As they navigate their beautiful journey, they meet locals and make new friends along the way. A fun and off-the-wall buddy movie, The Spin is based upon a semi-autobiographical short story by Omagh music star Mark McCausland (The Lost Brothers, The Basement, McKowski). McCausland also provides the film’s beautiful folk soundtrack. Alongside O'Connor, Colgan and O'Neill, The Spin also stars Pussycat Dolls' Kimberley Wyatt as well as Maura Higgins (formerly Love Island & I'm A Celeb) who makes her feature length acting debut. The film also includes cameos from Irish music royalty, Barry Devlin (Horslips) and Steve Wickham (The Waterboys).     We were supposed to be talking about a film called "A beautiful break up" but ended up talking about 3 other films and, the state of the world we live in instead. WHY!? you'll find out when you listen Films covered instead: "Rental Family", Brendon Fraser is a token American in Hikari's low budget lost in translation feel good movie. Ricky Stanicky" John Cena and Zac Efron sing about willys and, "Happyend" a coming of age Sci-fi film that's not very sci-fi anymore.     Dogma, Kevin Smith & Partying like it's 1999

    We're covering a film that lots of people have probably seen but not in this high a quality. The 25th anniversary of Dogma is being celebrated with a 4K release of the best (?) Kevin Smith film, now that he's got the rights back. Me and Captain J watch it and talk a little about the impact Kevin Smith has had on out worlds... it's not just that one scene, honest. Also as I thought there wouldn't be too much to talk about a film everybody has seen, I knocked up a little quiz about the year 1999 and, snuck in quick quiz of 'Are you an UN-ALIVE?" turns out there was a fair amount to talk about, and even then I don't think we even scratched the surface of what a wonderful film this was and still is Dogma is showing in theatres around the place and probably getting every possible physical release you can think of, with multiple bonus features.
