Liberating shame an how it can become your superpower.

In this episode, I  dives deep into one of the most rarely discussed emotions: shame. We explores the difference between embarrassment and shame, how to identify whether the shame you're carrying is actually yours or was projected onto you, and how speaking shame aloud to a safe person can strip it of its power. This is the  first time I have shared this particular story in with anyone from my teenage years and I illustrate how projected shame can shape our internal narrative for years and how reclaiming and integrating shame becomes a path to liberation. KEY TOPICS  Welcome & introduction — Why we don't talk about shame (0:00)Embarrassment vs. shame — How they differ and why shame is about identity, not actions (1:31)Kavita's personal story — A teacher's public shaming at sixth form college and carrying it for years (4:09)How shame survives in silence — The importance of being witnessed with empathy (8:41)Projected shame — When someone hands you their own unhealed stuff (11:16)The "conviction vs. fog" test — How to tell if shame is truly yours (12:36)Conditioned shame — Rules absorbed from culture, family, religion, and society (13:03)Finding your authentic shame — Stripping away every outside voice (15:18)Accountability vs. self-punishment — Why berating yourself keeps you stuck (16:10)Using shame as a spotlight — What your mistakes reveal about your values, limits, and blind spots (17:20)Shame can't survive being spoken — The power of a safe witness (19:11)Three things that happen when you stop hiding from shame — Authenticity, empathy, and courage (21:31)This week's exercise — Write down one shame, ask three questions, tell one safe person (22:28)Closing & resources — Free somatic meditation below.(24:25)KEY TAKEAWAYS Embarrassment is about a moment; shame is about identity. Embarrassment passes  shame lingers because it attaches to who you believe you are.Not all shame is yours. Much of what we carry is projected (someone else's discomfort handed to us) or conditioned (rules absorbed from culture, family, religion). Strip away every outside voice and see what remains.Use the "conviction vs. fog" test. If the shame feels clear and specific, it's likely yours. If it feels vague and diffuse ("something's wrong with me"), it's probably inherited.Shame survives in secrecy, silence, and judgment. Speaking it aloud to a safe, empathetic person is what loosens its grip.Accountability does not equal self-punishment. Hold yourself accountable, but don't berate yourself. Punishing yourself on repeat doesn't undo shame — it keeps you stuck.Mistakes reveal blind spots. Use shame as a spotlight to learn about your values, limits, and the parts of yourself you can't see from the inside.
