This term originates from a widely discredited parent survey, which gathered participants from a notorious transphobic forum, making its findings inherently biased and unreliable (such a good journalist that she decided to omit this detail). The podcast frequently references the work of Ray Blanchard, whose theories were regarded as reductive and unsubstantiated even decades ago. For a comprehensive critique, I highly recommend reading Julia Serano’s peer-reviewed takedown of Blanchard's work, which thoroughly dismantles its validity. Despite this, the host continues to frame these outdated ideas as factual. Many of the guests interviewed lack objectivity and occasionally make bigoted remarks, undermining their credibility. The inclusion of irrelevant sections about eunuchs and pedophiles appears designed to provoke a visceral reaction from listeners, deliberately associating feelings of disgust with the trans community—a tactic that is both irresponsible and genuinely dangerous. For instance, the podcast cites Reduxx, a publication that is overtly dedicated to portraying trans individuals as predators and pedophiles, further cementing its fear-mongering agenda (its the type of publication reminiscent of the 1930s German propaganda against the “undesirables”). The host cherry-picks studies that align with their narrative while conveniently ignoring research that contradicts it. The result is a deeply biased portrayal, cloaked in reasonableness but ultimately serving as an insidious form of fear-mongering. While some points raised may seem reasonable on the surface, they are overshadowed by the harmful rhetoric and deliberate "othering" of trans individuals. We need to address these complex issues thoughtfully and compassionately, without resorting to treating trans people as scapegoats or dehumanizing them. Othering is the first step toward bigotry, and this podcast exemplifies how dangerous and divisive that can be. The “think of the children” and “think of the women” crowd is so quick to align themselves with individuals and organisations that show no interest in safeguarding children or women in any other aspect of society, almost the contrary.
