Whether you’re a hardcore fan of Star Trek: The Original Series or The X-Files, or you’ve never seen either of them, X-Treks is a hilarious journey in which two friends share their life long obsessions with each other. Each episode looks at an episode of each show linked by a particular theme (the hook, complete mayhem, that didn’t age well, etc.) and the resulting conversations are always very funny and interesting, and offer fresh perspectives. Stella, Erin and their producer Bobby are a joy to listen to and the format works brilliantly, from overall thoughts on that week’s episodes, to obscure facts and casting notes, through to a deep dive on shipping (there’s a lot of shipping talk, and your eyes may be opened to the potential fan-fics that are out there). At its best X-Treks transcends just being a show about Star Trek or The X-Files and becomes about what it means to love a show and a fandom, and to want to share it with others.
There is also a lot of lusting over Mitch Pileggi. Your mileage may vary.
