    TW: use of slurs relating to LGBT+ community This episode I'm speaking with British Asian writer, Joy, about her experiences as a Muslim bisexual woman with mixed Asian heritages. Phew we cover a lot in this episode - join our great conversation about activism, identity, and personal experiences from an Asian, LGBT+ and Muslim perspective.

    Bisexual Awareness Week is celebrated every year on 16-23rd Sept around Bisexuality Day (23rd Sept) #BiWeek

    Perceived privilege of being Chinese-passing and straight-passing

    The problem with census forms (which ethnic box do you check?!)

    Ep 15 : Mental Health and Youth Power (with Loizza Aquino)

    We're talking public speaking, mental health and youth power! Loizza Aquino is an inspirational role model who brings important conversations about mental health to her community, including her Filipino Canadian community, and also around the world!  International Youth Day is celebrated by the UN every year on 12th August and I'm grateful for the opportunity to celebrate young people who are leaders driving civic engagement and CHANGE. Yes to more Asian inspirations!

    Ep 14 : Sister Tag

    Ep 14 : Sister Tag

    You're in for a treat as I'm sitting down with all 3 of my younger sisters for a #SISTERTAG episode, Did you know that the first Sunday of August is SISTERS DAY? I'm so grateful that I have my younger sisters Jessica, Lauryn and Olivia. We're talking about the meaning behind our names,  after-school tutoring and growing up with Asian parents. We also accidentally get into family trauma and the fights we had growing up. From this episode, I've realised how many childhood memories I've completely forgotten and also how me and my sisters finish each other sentences! Who are your sisters (or sisters from another mister)?

    Ep 13 : Women of South Korea and how to be Fluent Korean (with MinJu @FluentKorean)

    Ep 13 : Women of South Korea and how to be Fluent Korean (with MinJu @FluentKorean)

    We are exploring guest MinJu's journey to become more fluent in both Fluent Korean culture and language. As someone who grew up largely in Manila Philippines,  MinJu is keen to learn more about her South Korean roots and shares her research on her FluentKorean website. I learnt so much from our conversation from MinJu's experiences in International School, how learning about Korean culture helps her understand her parents and the terms that Koreans adopt from other languages. A highlight of the conversation is MinJu's research about Gisaeng (or Kisaeng), women who were enslaved sex workers and also very well educated. Who knew?!  This really inspires me to learn more about East and Southeast Asian history, something I learnt nothing about at school! How have you explored the culture and history of your Asian heritage?

YellowBeePod = QUEEN

Can you do another pod with your sisters please? That was so much fun. I wish I was part of your gang (ie your 5th sister). Love listening to your pods. Your such an inspiration and I hope Sadie grows up just like you.

The podcast

The podcast untangles day to day issues from the ephemeral split second stereotyping of the Asian community to the complex notion of the sense of belonging in a foreign land. Natalie’s clever narrative provides ease in accessibility to these ideas and have sneaked into my top 5 go to podcasts.

Words of wisdom

I love how Natalie speaks about everything so much better than I could voice it. Yellowbee pod is the ideal podcast to learn about East/south East Asian experiences and to know that what you think is abnormal, actually isn’t! Every episode talks about current topics and I look forward to hearing more!
