EP192 It Looked Like a Tree Stump with Arms and Two Red Eyes: Yet Another Pilliga NSW Yowie Sighting

We’re heading to the notorious Pilliga Forest first up this week for yet another truck driver yowie sighting! If you’re new to the show or haven’t heard of the Pilliga Forest, it’s a massive, ancient semi-arid woodland covering over half a million hectares (more than 3,000 square kilometers between Coonabarabran and Narrabri), in north-central New South Wales, Australia. The Pilliga includes national parks, nature reserves, and state conservation areas, it features rugged sandstone landscapes, rich Indigenous heritage, and immense biodiversity. The Gamilaraay Nation has a deep spiritual and cultural connection to the land spanning tens of thousands of years. Recognized as a vital biodiversity hotspot, it houses hundreds of native plant and animal species, including koalas, eastern pygmy possums, rare barking owls, and malleefowl. The Pilliga is also characterized by flat sandy plains, white cypress pine forests, ironbark, and ancient rock formations. It is also a place of high strangeness where truck drivers often refuse to stop. I’ve personally taken nine reports of yowies and other strange happenings from that area over the years, and there are many more stories out there that I’ve heard and I’m sure many that I haven’t. Today we talk to one of those truck drivers, Baz. I first interviewed Baz about his yowie sighting in the Pilliga several years ago, so first up I’m going to share an excerpt of his original interview, and then I caught up with him a couple of months ago for a catch up chat. Baz shared what happened when he and a mate went looking for yowies in the Glenbrook/Blue Mountains area of NSW (another yowie hotspot) – and I’m talking a whole heap of what I’d call typical yowie activity and moments of feeling that nameless dread that so many people report. Baz also tells us about the time he had full blown sighting of a black panther, and how he’s worked out a great way to broach the subject of yowies with new people to find like-minded friends. EP185 Hickeys Falls Revisited Anniversary Edition

I’ve got a very special show for you today and I'm so excited to share it with you! Six years ago, almost to the day, I did an interview that went on to become one of the best-known, if not the best known, yowie sighting of all time. Yes, I’m talking about Hickeys Falls. It’s the one story that people always bring up to me when they mention their favourite yowie sightings. Many people have also told me that it was this story that made them believers in the existence of yowies. Many people were moved by not just the sincerity of the witness but also the residual fear clearly audible in her voice ten years after the event. With all of that in mind and with the sixth anniversary at the end of this month, I thought I’d reach out to the Hickeys Falls witness and see if she was up for a catch up chat. And thankfully, she was. So, today Yowie Central proudly presents the re-mastered original interview with the hour-long catch up chat I had with the courageous and articulate Hickeys Falls witness. For those not familiar with Hickeys Falls, it’s located in NSW at the southern end of the notoriously spooky Pilliga State Forest. It’s a small but stunningly beautiful waterfall surrounded by cliffs that form a natural amphitheatre, located just off the Newell Hwy. There’s a rest stop there, where you can park or stay the night or have a picnic and swim in the waterholes at the bottom of the falls. If you dare... Hosted on Acast.
