Putting Away Foolish Things | Ep 5 | Better Together

Better Together Ep. 5: Putting Away Foolish Things In this Better Together conversation, D Johns, Joe T, Reggie G, and Jey Blac unpack what it means to “put away foolish things,” framing it as an ongoing, seasonal process tied to maturity, self-awareness, and obedience to God. They discuss how distractions, instant gratification, pride, learned behaviors, and unexamined expectations can derail relationships, work, finances, and spiritual growth—especially when people confuse what they expect with what they actually deserve. The group debates marriage, divorce, discernment, premarital counseling, and the pressure of timelines, sharing personal examples about staying too long in jobs or relationships, lacking wise counsel, and mistaking grace for wisdom. They close by challenging listeners to identify their current “foolish thing,” release what’s harming them “at what cost,” and stop celebrating being “the coolest fool in the room.” Follow the channel, watch the long-form episode on YouTube, and leave a review. 00:00 Welcome Back Intro 00:35 Weather And AC Bills 01:41 Show Updates And Subscribe 02:16 Putting Away Foolishness 05:30 Instant Gratification Trap 06:32 Wordsmithing And Avoidance 07:08 Jobs Marriage And Covenant 12:17 God Says Stop Go Time 17:42 Maturity Obedience And Self 23:37 Chasing the Honeymoon 24:04 Grace Without Excuses 25:15 Imperfect Models of Marriage 26:26 Abraham and Ishmael Lessons 28:45 Premarital Counseling Reality Check 31:04 Pride and Entitlement Traps 39:21 Expectations Versus Deserving 42:57 Self Assessment and Hard Talks 46:39 Know When to Let Go 48:18 Final Challenges and Farewell #fathersonrelationship #adviceformen #modernfatherhood #adultchildren #lifelessonsformen #raisingmen #raisingkids #mantalk Channel Focus Areas: “What Fathers Should Teach Their Sons” “How to Be a Better Father” “Father Son Relationship Advice” “Mistakes Fathers Make” “Lessons Every Man Should Learn” Shop DSN Merch: https://thedearsonpodcast.com/dsp-merch-%26-digital Shop Father Figure: https://www.f2apparel.store/ Follow James: https://instagram.com/jeyblac Follow Joe T: https://instagram.com/bakeriii Follow Reggie: https://instagram.com/fatherfigureapparel Also, if you've made it this far, don't forget to: 1. subscribe to the channel, 2. turn on the notifications, 3. like this video, 4. leave a comment, and 5. share this content with someone who needs it. • Teen Suicide: Knowing the Warning Signs

    29/09/2025

Teen Suicide: Knowing the Warning Signs

Today, Mark Gregston and Wayne Shepherd discuss a difficult but very important topic: teen suicide. Mark emphasizes that parents must pay close attention and listen more than judge, watching for sudden withdrawal, changes in sleep/eating, talk of hopelessness or social posts that sound like a cry for help, as these behaviors must be taken seriously. Teens need safe chances to speak honestly and should be encouraged to reach out rather than hide pain. Mark offers parents practical ways to intervene immediately when warning signs appear and encourages ongoing communication and regular check-ins to build trust and strengthen the relationship. Heartlight Ministries, our residential counseling program, may be just what your teen needs if they are struggling. Suicide: How to talk about it with teens, and offer proper support.

Ask Rachel anything In a recent column in The Times, Caitlin Moran wrote about how five young men in her social circle have taken their lives in the past 18 months. She's not alone. My daughter has experienced this, as has Benedicte's son, the listener who contacted me to suggest I cover it in an episode. In the UK, the leading cause of death for men under the age of 50 is suicide, and the statistics in the US are even worse. Boys are particularly vulnerable, and we know that there's the risk of social contagion if we're not careful about how we discuss it. So how do we talk to kids who've been impacted by this devastating loss? Dr Steven Kariaskos is deeply involved in suicide prevention and support and gives some excellent tips for us parents.   RESOURCES: https://www.copingaftersuicide.com/support-groups https://afsp.org/ https://findahelpline.com/i/iasp https://samaritanshope.org/blog/suicide-grief-101/ Facilities in which Dr Steven Kariaskos is involved: The Kita Center in Maine: https://www.thekitacenter.org/ This bereavement and mental health center supports individuals impacted by suicide loss.
