Fatherhood Made Me Responsible: Dela Avemega on Raising Five Children | Dads Dey 005

Episode 005 In this episode of Dads Dey: The African Fatherhood Podcast, Rodney Quarcoo sits down with multidisciplinary creative, author, artist, and father of five, Dela Avemega, for an honest conversation about what fatherhood has taught him. From growing up with a father whose work kept him away from home to making a conscious decision to be more present for his own children, Dela reflects on how parenting has reshaped his priorities, creativity, and understanding of responsibility. The conversation explores balancing family with a creative career, raising children as individuals rather than extensions of ourselves, navigating discipline with empathy, and learning to let children find their own paths. Dela also shares his biggest parenting regret, why fatherhood inspired him to become a children’s author, and the lessons he hopes every aspiring father hears before embarking on the journey. This is a thoughtful and inspiring discussion about presence, purpose, legacy, and what it truly means to be a modern African father. ----- Follow Dads Dey: Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/dadsdey/ YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/@DadsDey Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/dadsdey Follow Rodney: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/rodneyquarcoo/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/rodneyquarcoo/

It Starts With a Choice: Rowland Gbedemah on Breaking the Cycle of Fatherhood | Dads Dey 006

Two lifelong friends sit down to reflect on the fathers who raised them, the men they’ve become, and the fathers they’re striving to be. Rowland Gbedemah shares stories from growing up in a strict military household, becoming a father to two very different children, and the lessons he’s carried from one generation to the next. From resilience and discipline to parenting across cultures, autism, family heritage, and men’s mental health, this conversation explores what it really means to raise children with intention. Honest, funny and deeply personal, it’s a reminder that fatherhood isn’t about perfection—it’s about making better choices, learning from the past, and showing up every day. --- Dads Dey website

White noise is the most commonly used sound for babies, it helps them sleep and reduces anxiety. The womb sound can help babies fall asleep because it mimics their mother's heartbeat in the womb. Sounds with a slow tempo that is soothing for babies and adults. Lullabies are songs that have been traditionally sung by mothers to their children to lull them into sleep. Many different sounds can be used to help babies relax and sleep. One of these sounds is the womb sound. Another type of sound that is often used for relaxation is brown noise or white noise. Brown noise is a type of sound that has a low frequency, which means it sounds like it’s from far away, like the ocean or a waterfall. White noise has a higher frequency and sounds like it’s from close by, like rain or wind. The womb sound is a type of brown noise that is supposed to be calming and relaxing. It is said to be one of the babies' most popular sleep sounds. This sound has been proven to help babies sleep faster and sleep better. This is because it mimics the environment in the womb, where they are surrounded by this type of sound. On the other hand, the white noise sound has been proven to help babies sleep longer and stay asleep longer. This type of sound helps block out other noises that can disrupt their sleep, like noisy traffic outside their window. Babies can be very sensitive to their environment. They are still developing, and their brains are not yet fully developed. That’s why it’s essential to provide them with a soothing environment to help them sleep better. Babies have a lot of work to do before they can sleep. They must regulate their body temperature, digest food, and eliminate waste. Babies are also trying to figure out how to get comfortable in the world. All this work takes energy, and it is exhausting!

Why Are All the Young People So Insecure?

What if raising secure kids has less to do with what you do wrong as a parent — and more to do with teaching them to build the right relationships from the start? My guest this week is Dr. Amir Levine, molecular neuroscientist, child psychiatrist, and associate professor of clinical psychiatry at Columbia University. His new book, Secure: The Revolutionary Guide to Creating a Secure Life, offers a unified theory of relationships with surprisingly concrete tools for building security at any age. This episode shares specific, teachable tools for helping kids of all ages — including neurodivergent kids — move through the world with greater security. What you'll learn: Why less than 10% of adult attachment style can be explained by parenting and why that's good news if you've been worrying you've already "done something wrong" What CARP means (Consistent, Available, Responsive, Reliable, Predictable) and why teaching kids to look for CARP friends can shape their relationship patterns for life Why our brains chase drama and ignore the secure people already around us and how to redirect toward a "secure village" How small, everyday micro-interactions create structural changes in the brain and why each one is an opportunity This episode is brought to you buy: BetterHelp: You don’t have to say yes to everything this summer. I Nosedived Straight Into Perimenopause' | Natasha Hamilton on Five Kids, Mum Guilt & Finishing Her Story Her Own Way

This week Georgia Jones sits down with Atomic Kitten's Natasha Hamilton for a chat about motherhood across four decades, perimenopause and reclaiming her music career on her own terms. Natasha gets real about becoming a mum again at 43 after IVF, the emergency surgery that followed, and what it was like being a 20-year-old pop star with postnatal depression and a newborn on a world tour, back when the right support just wasn't there. Then it goes deeper: the mental breakdown that led her to therapy, parenting a 24-year-old and a toddler at the same time, the terrifying social media experiment that changed how she protects her daughter, and why HRT gave her her life (and her marriage) back. Plus the music: her new EP Extraction, the deeply personal track White Feather written for her late grandmother, and the family-filled video where her daughter plays a young Natasha.
