Kabuliwala
Kabuliwala is probably the most popular short story written by Nobel Laureate Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. It narrates a fictional story of an Afghan trader Rehman, Kabuliwala, in the city of Kolkatta. He meets a young girl named Mini about the age of his own daughter and the two become best friends. They make their own games and fill the air with laughter around them. Until one day, Rehman gets into a fight with someone and is taken away by the police. The day of his return from prison is the day when Mini is getting married and she struggles to even recognize him. This reminds Rehman of his own daughter and how he has missed her entire childhood.
