Legendary producer and musician Dahi ("Money Trees" by Kendrick Lamar, "a lot" by 21 Savage, "Worst Behavior" by Drake) joins Devon on the show this week to pay homage to one of his favorite Jadakiss freestyles, speak on his creative process, and to discuss his new album, "Black Boy (Alternative)." Dahi, formerly known as DJ Dahi, is one of the most influential producers of his generation, serving as a sonic architect behind some of the most defining records of the past decade. A Grammy Award winner and six-time Grammy nominee, he earned the Grammy for Best Rap Song for “a lot” by 21 Savage featuring J. Cole and has also been recognized with a nomination for Producer of the Year, Non-Classical, one of the Recording Academy’s highest honors for producers. Born and raised in Inglewood, California, to a mother from North Carolina and a father from Côte d’Ivoire, Dahi’s upbringing and diverse musical influences have helped shape his singular approach to sound. Dahi’s genre-spanning body of work includes collaborations with artists such as Vampire Weekend, Madonna, Steve Lacy, Brent Faiyaz, Omar Apollo, Kelela, Tyler, The Creator, Kali Uchis, Little Simz, and Childish Gambino. His production credits include a remarkable roster of landmark albums, from Kendrick Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d city, DAMN., and Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers to Drake’s Views, Childish Gambino’s 3.15.20, Steve Lacy’s Gemini Rights, SZA’s SOS, and Mac Miller’s Swimming. His new album, “Black Boy (Alternative)” marks Dahi’s debut album as a solo artist, ushering in a new era for the Grammy-winning producer and bringing together an extraordinary lineup of artists including Kendrick Lamar, Childish Gambino, Vince Staples, Channel Tres, Fousheé, Ravyn Lenae, Baby Rose, Moses Sumney, and Amber Mark.
