    #318 - Anger Part 2: When Everything’s Finally “Good”

Have an episode suggestion? Text us! Many partners expect relief when sobriety begins. Instead, they may feel confused, guilty, and angry when everything is finally going well. In this episode, Matt and Paige explore why anger often surfaces months or even years into recovery, not during the chaos itself. They break down how survival mode suppresses emotion, why the brain protects relationships through betrayal blindness, and how safety is often what allows buried feelings to finally emerge. They also talk about the guilt partners feel for being angry once their loved one is doing everything right, why being grateful and angry can coexist, and how avoiding the past in the name of moving forward often creates more damage long term. If you have ever asked yourself, “Why am I angry now?” this conversation will help you understand what is happening and what to do with it. #317 - Mindset Monday: “You Knew Who I Was” Is a Cop-Out

Have an episode suggestion? Text us! So incredibly gracious for your understanding as we navigate the crazy schedules of youth sports and rework some of our older and favorite episodes. You can bet on us being back and better than every with new lessons, episodes, and perspectives as soon as we can come up for air and breathe a bit! In this Mindset Monday episode, we’re calling out one of the most common excuses people use to avoid changing:  “You knew who I was when you married me.” It sounds logical. It’s not. That mindset freezes people in time and turns growth into something that feels like betrayal instead of responsibility. But adulthood doesn’t work like that. You don’t get to qualify once and coast forever. Not in your career, not in your health, and definitely not in your relationships. We also get into the conversation around shame, because people love to label it as toxic across the board. The truth is, not all shame is the same. Some of it keeps you stuck. Some of it is the exact thing that wakes you up. The difference comes down to whether you face it or protect your ego from it. At the core of this episode is a simple truth:  Your ability to grow is directly tied to how much truth you can tolerate about yourself without running from it. If you’re stuck in the same patterns, struggling to rebuild trust, or frustrated with someone who refuses to change, this episode will hit exactly where it needs to. #316 - Paige's Perspective: The Part of Addiction No One Talks About... The Spouse

Have an episode suggestion? Text us! In this episode of Paige’s Perspective, Paige goes back to something she rarely shares… her story. Not the polished version. Not the “we made it through” version. The real one. What it was like falling in love at 14, building a life together, and slowly realizing something wasn’t right. The confusion, the minimizing, the lies, the loneliness, and the moment everything finally came to the surface. She walks through what it looked like when Matt entered recovery, what actually changed… and what didn’t. Because sobriety didn’t magically fix the damage. In a lot of ways, that’s when her healing actually began. This episode breaks down the part of addiction that gets overlooked—the impact on the spouse. The anxiety, the loss of trust, the delayed emotional fallout, and the reality that you don’t just “move on” because someone gets sober. If you’re a spouse or partner, this will make you feel seen. If you’re the one struggling, this will help you understand the real impact of your actions. And if you’re somewhere in between, this episode will challenge you to stop minimizing, start being honest, and take a hard look at what it actually takes to heal. #315 - Anger Pt 1: Why You’re So Angry in This Relationship

Have an episode suggestion? Text us! In part one of our three-part anger series, we are talking about what anger really is when you are living with someone in active addiction, emotional immaturity, or someone who may be sober but still completely unhealed. Too many people have been taught that anger means they are bitter, toxic, dramatic, or “the problem.” But anger is often the part of you that knows something is wrong. It is the emotion that says your values are being violated, your nervous system is exhausted, and you cannot keep surviving like this forever. We talk about the difference between anger and aggression, why suppressing your anger keeps you stuck, and how waiting for someone else to finally validate your pain or take accountability only prolongs the chaos. We also share how we each experienced anger differently, why it can either become destructive or transformative, and how to start using it as fuel for change instead of a weapon. Whether you are still in the relationship, your partner is newly sober, or you are long out of it but still carrying resentment, this episode will help you understand what your anger may really be trying to tell you. #314 - Staying Sober: Mindset Monday Replay

Have an episode suggestion? Text us! A classic replay for the absolutely insanely busy life we're living right now.  I love this episode because it offers inspiration to those that are looking at their current life and a life of sobriety and wondering how it could ever happen...I promise you, it's possible and YOU can do this! Getting sober is one thing. Staying sober - living sober in a world where alcohol is everywhere - is another challenge entirely. In this episode of Mindset Monday, Matt dives into what it really looks like to be sober day-to-day, from battling boredom and navigating social situations to understanding the brain science behind why everything feels flat at first. Matt shares practical strategies, personal stories, and the mindset shifts that carried him through the hard moments: why cravings pass in 15 minutes, how to survive your “firsts” without alcohol, and how to make sobriety part of your identity rather than a punishment. You’ll hear about transitional addictions, why consistency matters more than perfection, and why the phrase “I don’t drink” is so much more powerful than “I can’t drink.” Whether you’re new to recovery or years in, this episode is about more than avoiding alcohol - it’s about building a life you don’t want to escape from. #312 - How We “Ruined” Marriages by Giving Women Standards

Have an episode suggestion? Text us! Some people think our podcast is dangerous because it gives women standards, challenges unhealthy relationships, and forces hard conversations to happen. In this episode, Matt responds to criticism that TWFO “ruins marriages” by making spouses more aware of manipulation, dishonesty, emotional abuse, and the reality of what they are living with. He talks about why honesty, accountability, transparency, and emotional safety are not dangerous, even if they disrupt the version of the relationship someone was benefiting from. He also discusses why some people become angry when their spouse stops tolerating what they used to accept, and why recovery is about far more than sobriety. Matt also makes it clear that we do not want people weaponizing our content, throwing clips in their partner’s face, or using recovery language to become cruel, self-righteous, or impossible to please. That is not what we are about. We challenge both people to grow. Everyone has work to do. But if you are the person who caused the majority of the damage through addiction, lying, manipulation, or chaos, you have more work to do in the beginning. That is not a judgment. It is a fact. Stop asking what you are going to get in return before you do the work. Safety comes first. Trust comes later. If you have ever felt like your partner changed after listening to this show, this episode is for you. Sometimes the relationship is not getting worse. Sometimes people are just finally seeing it clearly. Find video clips and full length video from this episode on YouTube and our other social media pages! #311 - Whose Story Is It To Tell?

Have an episode suggestion? Text us! When addiction, trauma, or abuse shape your life, how much of that story is yours to share? In this raw and thought-provoking episode of Till the Wheels Fall Off, we tackle the controversial question of whether speaking out about your experiences is an act of healing or betrayal. Too often, spouses of addicts are told to stay silent, to protect reputations, or to keep family struggles private. But at what cost? We discuss the impact of secrecy, how silence perpetuates stigma, and why sharing your truth is not just valid but necessary. From the backlash faced by public figures like Twitch’s widow Allison Holker and Annie Parker (I Did Not Kill My Husband), to our own experiences with addiction and recovery, we unpack the power dynamics, societal norms, and self-limiting beliefs that keep people from telling their stories. Does destigmatizing addiction mean shielding those who struggle from accountability? Are we overcorrecting to the point where we enable harmful behaviors? And most importantly, what happens when someone else’s addiction becomes your story, too? Tune in as we challenge the idea of silence as protection and explore how to reclaim your voice—without guilt, shame, or permission.
