    We sit down with Chief David Rhodes who's retired from the Atlanta Fire Department. He's also the current Editor In Chief for Fire Engineering and is the man in charge of FDIC.

    John F. Schmitt is a former Marine Corps infantry officer.  In 1989 he authored Warfighting, the keystone doctrinal manual that introduced the Marine Corps’ new operational doctrine of maneuver warfare and became a manifesto for the institutional reforms of the 1990s.  Warfighting has since been translated into several foreign languages and republished as a management guide for business leaders. 

    He subsequently authored several other high-level Marine Corps doctrinal manuals, including Campaigning, Expeditionary Operations, Planning, and Command and Control.  He invented and popularized tactical decision games (TDGs), which have become a staple of Marine Corps training and education and have been exported into other domains.  In 1994, he authored Mastering Tactics:  A Tactical Decision Game Workbook.  He has authored numerous future operating concepts for the Department of Defense.  In 1999, he and Gary Klein developed the Recognitional Planning Model (RPM), a staff planning methodology based on Klein’s RPD model.  He was an independent consultant in military affairs for over 25 years before joining ShadowBox.  He resides in Auburn, Alabama, with his wife Laura, and two dogs.  His hobbies include cycling, coaching soccer, reading, and arguing with Gary.

    We sit down with our friend and mentor Chief Mike Lombardo. Below is his bio with nearly 50 years of accomplishments.



    MIKE LOMBARDO is a 46-year veteran of the fire service and was the Commissioner/Chief of Department of the Buffalo Fire Department from Jan 2006 to Jan 2010. Mike was a member of the development team for the New York State Firefighter Survival and Rapid Intervention programs. He is a two-time Firehouse Magazine Heroism Award recipient (1988 and 1994) and the recipient of the FDIC 1999 Tom Brennan Training Achievement Award.  Mike has a BA in Public Safety from Neumann University.   In 2015 Mike was a contributor for the NFFF documentary “Giving Courage: LODD Chiefs Speak” Mike recently completing Near–Miss investigations in Scranton PA and Claymont DE, as well as completing a review of the San Francisco (CA) Fire Department leadership and a safety audit
    of the Boston (MA) Fire Department.  Mike spent 2 years as the North America Emergency Response Coordinator for the DuPont Corp. Mike is a member of the Board of Directors of the Fire Department Training Network where he presents and developed the Fire Command program.  Mike currently operates with the Christiana Fire Department in Delaware and the East Amherst Fire Department in New York.

    ERIC HASKINS is a former U.S. Project Gold Snowboard Team member who competed internationally for six years in pursuit of Olympic Gold. Retiring in 2009, he played ice hockey for Boise State University while earning his bachelor’s degree in exercise science, specializing in exercise physiology. Haskins is a National Strength and Conditioning Association-certified strength and conditioning specialist, a tactical strength and conditioning facilitator, and a Westside Barbell Conjugate tactical coach. He is also a senior firefighter for the Nampa (ID) Fire Protection District, currently assigned to “Roosevelt’s Rough Riders” on Engine 6 and was Idaho’s first graduate of the Georgia Smoke Diver program. Haskins is a co-founder of Brotherhood in Training and the head coach of Firehouse Strength & Conditioning, an online strength & conditioning program designed specifically for firefighters.
