Ep 12- What If Seinfeld Was Set In Sydney? With David O'Doherty

You'll hear from Irish comedy superstar David O'Doherty on this episode of Sydney Tonight as he shares the surprising story behind the statue of Queen Victoria outside of the QVB! David also spoke to me about his university breakdancing group, his addiction to buying bicycles, and how he plans to completely rewrite his Wikipedia page to inspire young people. You can catch David's show (Welcome To The David Zone) at the Sydney Comedy Festival towards the end of April! But David is not the only person to jump into the Sydney Tonight studio this week, as comedian Lily Hensby comes by to talk about her upcoming Comedy Festival show all about Julia Louise-Dreyfus (best known for playing Elaine in Seinfeld). Lily is maybe the biggest Julia Louise-Dreyfus fan on planet Earth and does one of the best impressions of her that I have ever heard, and so I thought it would be fun to create a scene from an episode of Seinfeld... if it was set in Sydney. And Lily very kindly went along with it, so you'll hear us begin figuring out what that scene might sound like before we put it to air in next week's show. And finally, Nathan Roach and Aspen Beilharz jump back behind the mics for another Sydney Tonight quiz- this time on the Easter Show! One of my favourite memories of attending the Easter Show when I was younger was buying a show bag (or rather, being bought a show bag by my parents) and so I wanted to see how they have changed since I last visited. In the quiz, I read out contents of different show bags and Nathan and Aspen need to figure out the theme! It's very fun and very simple and you can play along too! Sydney Tonight is the talk show our city has been crying out for! Covering the good, the bad, and the ugly, this show proves that despite it all, Sydney is the best city in the world. So whether you’re in Chatswood or Cherrybrook, Blacktown or Bankstown, Parramatta or Penrith- ring in each weekend with Sydney Tonight. For videos and other bonus content, check out the Sydney Tonight socials.  Get in touch with your own story suggestions! If you think there’s something in Sydney that we need to cover then send in an email and we will get back to you.  Sydney Tonight is broadcast on 2SER every Friday night at 7pm. Tune in on 107.3FM or through the 2SER Website.  CREDITS Announcer: Mark Williamson Producers: Liam Achurch, Aspen Beilharz, Annabelle Moore, Nathan Roach Artwork: Praveen Suriyaarachchi Guests: Lily Hensby, David O'Doherty This podcast is recorded on Gadigal and Dharug Land. Ep 11- Can I Get Robbed In Sydney's Safest Suburb? With Baker Boy

Cherrybrook often appears at the top of lists ranking Sydney's safest suburbs, with one of the lowest crime rates in the city. So this week on the show, I went out to test just how safe it is... by trying to get robbed. With a few different tactics, I attempted to see whether anyone in Cherrybrook would try to steal from me or if it actually deserves the title of Sydney's safest suburb. Also on the show tonight you'll hear from ARIA award winning musician Baker Boy! Joining me over Zoom, Baker Boy speaks about one of his all time career highlights (appearing on Playschool), his new album Djandjay, and the mystery that is Sydney's Entertainment Quarter. Baker Boy will be performing at Liberty Hall on Friday 10th April so grab your tickets while you still can! And finally, with Daylight Savings set to come to an end this weekend I tried to find out what the best thing you can do is when the clocks go back. With an extra hour being thrown into this long weekend, you need to make the most of the time! So I headed out to Eastern Creek to ask people what the best thing to do in an hour is, and they had some very creative answers. Sydney Tonight is the talk show our city has been crying out for! Ep 10- Is Mascot Full Of Cowards? With Bret McKenzie (Flight Of The Conchords)

One of the biggest roads in the entire suburb of Mascot is Coward Street, painting the image of rows of houses full of wimps. But is that true? To find out, I went to Coward Street to see if I could find any heroes! In a series of challenges I tested the bravery of everybody on Coward Street, first by applying social pressure, then by asking for physical bravery, and finally by looking for the most heroic act of all: somebody willing to stand up to a bully. Also in the show producers Nathan Roach and Aspen Beilharz attempt to name some famous events that have taken place in Sydney over the last few decades (centuries?) entirely by sound. If you think you know the biggest moments in this cities history then play along and see how you compare! It all started after I witnessed Catman arrive at the Sydney Opera House, where I realised I've actually seen quite a few big events in my time... And finally, you will hear from comedy legend Bret McKenzie! Bret stopped by Sydney Tonight to talk about early band names that didn't quite stick, some of the worst jobs he had before he made it in comedy, and what it was like to work on The Simpsons! Nathan also jumped back in the studio (big show for him) to share a song with Bret that he wrote when he was 13 years old and a big Flight Of The Conchords fan! Ep 9- Sydney's Cafes Are Officially Better Than Melbourne's! With Alex Lee

After a list of the 100 best coffee shops in the entire world was published last week, we can now officially say that Sydney has better cafes than Melbourne. Two cafes in Sydney made the top 5, with Melbourne's highest ranking all the way down in 27th! But just how good is a coffee from one of these top ranked cafes? And does it taste noticeably better than a coffee from an average cafe? To find out, my producer Aspen and I visited Toby's Estate in Chippendale for an experiment. You'll also meet comedian and TV presenter Alex Lee as she joins me in the Sydney Tonight studios to talk about being a school captain, playing Dungeons and Dragons, and why she is actually the perfect example of a life well lived. Alex will be starring in the new ABC show Tonight At The Museum which kicks off on Wednesday 4th March so be sure to tune in for that! And you're probably sleeping on Dulwich Hill- one of the greatest suburbs in Sydney. Nathan Roach and Juliet Timmerman got out to "the pot of gold at the end of the L1 line" this week to find out what makes it such a special place to be. And between the new metro station, the three light rail stops, and the rocket ship monument, they were spoilt for choice. Thank you to Mark Williamson, Aspen Beilharz, Lee Chan, Alex Lee, Nathan Roach, and Juliet Timmerman! Sydney Tonight is produced at 2SER studios in Ultimo, Sydney. The show is broadcast every Tuesday night at 7:30pm from Chatswood to Cherrybrook, Blacktown to Bankstown, Parramatta to Penrith!  Catch interview clips, videos, and other extra Sydney Tonight content here!  If you have a story about Sydney that you think needs to be told, get in touch through the email!     This podcast is recorded on Gadigal and Dharug Land.
