    377. Re-Release - Katie - Pt 2 of 2 - Escalation to Emotional, Physical, and Near‑Fatal Violence

This is part two of a two-part story with Katie. Be sure you are ready to hear this story. As it proceeds, you will be hearing about horribly abusive physical violence and actual torture... Trigger warnings need to be expressed due to both the content and graphic descriptions. If this story is too intense for you, please stop listening and take care of yourself. Katie's Story When Katie met Mark, he appeared as this attractive guy playing amazing bass fiddle in a rockabilly band. She loved his music and soon felt he was the one. As soon as they were introduced, they were an item from the start. Things happened fast as Mark and Katie seemed to click in all manner of speaking. But, as time wore on, she found herself to be his total support person, seeing to it that his career came first. She was doing everything imaginable to pay the bills and make ends meet. His sole purpose was to find stardom making his music. Mixed into the relationship came the warning signs that were missed when any person is not educated about them. The isolation. The jealousies. The various kinds of emotional abuse that creep in. And then came physical abuse, which was just horrible. Katie is fortunate to be alive today. 375. Re-Release - Jen Lee - A Survivor’s Story of Dating Abuse, Emotional Trauma, and Recovery

I met Jen Lee six years ago when she and I launched separate podcasts at around the same time. Both podcasts are heavily aimed at identifying and supporting survivors. Jen and I share podcast tips and have remained professional friends ever since. Residing in Virginia, her first marriage ended amicably (really). She wanted a relationship that matched her energy and zest for life. While having an after-work bite with coworkers, she met a guy and instantly fell for him. A fast-moving, long-distance relationship ensued with Rob, a businessman from New York. A trusting person, Jen became caught up in a relationship that can only be described as “crazy”. Today, with the wisdom of years, Jen can look back and describe all of the warning signs that could have saved her from three years of heartache and misery had she only known better. You need to hear this one as it plays out. Jen’s survivor podcast is entitled, “I Need Blue”. Her book is called, “Why I Survived”. This is her website: "The Healing in Sharing" Thank you for listening to our WHEN DATING HURTS podcast, Bill Mitchell WhenDatingHurts.com NOTE: If you are a survivor and want to share your story of abuse on the WHEN DATING HURTS Podcast, please email me: BillMitchell@WhenDatingHurts.com The WHEN DATING HURTS book (in paperback, eBook, and audiobook) can be found on Amazon. 374. Listen to the Mind of an Abuser - Our Eighth Installment

We want you to hear from the mind of an abuser once more... This episode, our eighth in this "Mind of the Abuser" series, comes with content and trigger warnings: Domestic abuse, domestic violence, language, and graphic violence. We have heard enough about the minds and justifications of abusers to have insights into what we would probably hear. It would sound like the excuses for actions taken only to gain control over another person. It would be a relentless pushback. There would be no apologies. That is what you will hear in this episode. This episode will talk about the Warning Signs of a potentially unhealthy (dangerous) relationship. But, this is from an abuser's point of view. The voice you will hear on this WHEN DATING HURTS Podcast episode was created by a computer program. It is not a real person's voice. The words spoken are a composite of beliefs and concepts expressed by dating and domestic abusers found within articles and interviews. They have been collected over nearly two decades. They have been reassembled as complete ideas and thoughts.   This episode illustrates how abusers portray themselves as victims. There is not one "portrait" that fits all abusers, of course, but many never take ownership of their words or actions, and they justify their abusive and destructive behavior.   Bill Mitchell NOTE: If you are a survivor and want to share your story of abuse on the WHEN DATING HURTS Podcast, please email me: BillMitchell@WhenDatingHurts.com The WHEN DATING HURTS book (in paperback, eBook, and audiobook) can be found on Amazon. A "must-listen-to" podcast on dating abuse and domestic violence, also known as intimate partner violence. . Hosted by Bill Mitchell, author of the memoir, WHEN DATING HURTS (Amazon), this book is about the murder of his daughter by her ex-boyfriend. Bill and his wife, Michele, lost Kristin to dating violence. She was brutally murdered in June 2005, just 20 days after her college graduation. FACT: 1 in 3 WOMEN suffer serious physical violence at the hands of intimate partners during their lifetimes. Typically, it happens between the ages of 16-24. But can happen at any age. It doesn't need to happen.  Bill interviews experts with key experiences in dating and domestic violence: • Actual survivors of intimate partner violence (dating abuse and domestic violence) • "DV" agency counselors • Law enforcement professionals • Parents of children who were either lost to, or somehow survived, dating violence After listening to the WHEN DATING HURTS Podcast, be sure to share it with those who need to hear it... Remember the 1 in 3 women statistic. It is real. The WHEN DATING HURTS memoir (paperback, eBook, audiobook) is only available on Amazon.
