Occamova britva: Platonova špilja, I. dio

Oni su od djetinjstva zatočeni u špilji. Na nogama i oko vrata imaju okove. Glava im je tako okovana da ju ne mogu okretati, mogu gledati samo ispred sebe. Ispred njih nalazi se zid, iza njih gori vatra i od te vatre dolazi jedino svjetlo. Iza tih okovanih ljudi nalaze se ljudi koji nose svakojake sprave i kipove. Jedino što ti okovani ljudi vide jesu sjene od tih sprava i kipova koje nosi ti drugi, neokovani ljudi. Neki od tih ljudi koji nose te sprave i kipove se glasaju, kako bi se činilo da te sjene na zidu imaju i glasove. Sve ovo dosad mogao bi biti početak nekog filma strave i užasa, neka celuloidna ili prava noćna mora. A zapravo je riječ o jednoj od najglasovitijih slika u povijesti filozofije. Godine 1665. Baruch de Spinoza počeo je pisati djelo koje je u pismu svom prijatelju ovako objasnio: „Sada pišem raspravu o tome kako razumijem Sveto Pismo. Da to učinim potiču me: 1. predrasude teologa, 2. mnijenje koje svjetina o meni ima i koja me ne prestaje optuživati za ateizam, 3. sloboda filozofiranja i govorenja onoga što mislimo; želim je na svaki način obraniti budući da je ona posve zatrta zbog prevelikog utjecaja propovjednika i njihove bezobzirnosti“. Reakcije na tu knjigu bile su žestoke. Jedan ju je kritičar nazvao knjigom iskovanom u paklu. Anaksagora je bio prvi filozof koji je optužen za bezbožništvo, Spinozina optužba za bezbožništvo bit će jedna od najsnažnijih i najoštrijih. Tvrdio je da toplinu zvijezda ne osjećamo, jer im je velika udaljenost od Zemlje. Mjesec nema vlastitoga svjetla, nego ga ima od Sunca. Pomrčina Mjeseca nastaje kad se Zemlja nađe ispred njega, a pomrčina Sunca nastaje za mlađaka kada se Mjesec nađe ispred Sunca. Za Sunce je tvrdio da je samo užarena gromada. Ta mu je tvrdnja donijela optužbu za bezbožništvo. Ime filozofa koji je to tvrdio je Anaksagora, nadimak mu je bio Um. On je prvi u nizu filozofa koji su optuženi za bezbožništvo, ateizam. Harrison Hill - The Aggressive Christianity Missions Training Corps

Author Harrison Hill joins the girls to discuss his new book The Oracle’s Daughter, which follows the rise and fall of a small cult called the Aggressive Christianity Missions Training Corps. He explains what the religious landscape in America looked like at the time, with the spiritual awakening and unrest of the 60s transitioning into a new Christianity movement, and how this group’s leader Lila Carter (who later became Deborah Greene) began her spiritual journey on a commune called the Bear Tribe.They discuss the beginnings of Lila’s own visions, moaning and grunting and giving birth to what she called “spiritual soldiers,” how her following grew, and the parallels between her and Shaker leader Ann Lee. Naturally, the group became more controlling and cruel over time, changing people’s names to words like “Despised,” using physical punishment on its members, and even kidnapping a baby. And finally, they touch on how Lila’s daughter Sarah, the subject of the book, found her own way through all of this, eventually leaving and sharing her story of survival.
