Interview: Kenneth Evstrand (Guitar) and Kjell Rune Sønsthagen (Bass) of Evilon

Evilon, the melodic folk & death metal band from Sweden released their brand-new album, ‘A Warrior's Way’ at the start of November 2024, via Fetzner Death Records. A record that sees Evilon delving deeper into the swamp of beautiful folk melodies reminiscent of older times, while still maintaining aggressive, yet melodic, death metal riffs. The kind that has come to represent the Scandinavian metal scene. ‘A Warrior's Way’ has been heralded as their best release yet, and it certainly finds the band in a more confident place when it comes to showcasing the power in their folk sound. This is just one aspect of the new album that we discussed with band founder and guitarist Kenneth Evstrand. Who, alongside, bassist Kjell Rune Sønsthagen, gave us even more insight into their processes, how the ever evolving face of Evilon got to this stage, what the future might look like, and so much more. Interview: Jessica Douek (Vocals) Larry Sobieraj (Guitar) of Mallavora

Bristolian alt-metal act Mallavora have released their brand-new album, ‘Echoes’, out now via Marshall Records. An EP that explores chronic illness, neurodiversity, and identity, blending shades of rock, alt-metal, and vocalist Jessica Douek’s Middle Eastern roots. A stunning release that we gave 10 out of 10 and described as: Cathartic and inclusive, there’s so much to Mallavora and so much to unpack with this EP that, chances are, we could still be talking about the four tracks on offer in a year’s time. That’s now impactful the music is and that is how important what Mallavora are doing is here. A band that genuinely feels like they can make a difference when it comes to inclusivity within the music industry and making those who feel forgotten about, heard. You can read our review of the full EP here: https://www.gbhbl.com/ep-review-mallavora-echoes-marshall-records/ We spoke to Guitarist Larry and vocalist Jessica, who live with chronic illnesses, about this record and their journey to this point. Discussing how they plans were upended by them winning ‘The Deal’ in the most positive of ways, going on to record this EP at Marshall Records' studios and open The Avalanche Stage at Download Festival earlier this year. We also discuss opening up, speaking about issues that are important to them, accessibility at venues, how everyone can get involved, and so much more. Interview: Adam Zaars (Guitars) of Tribulation

While they may be renowned for their unique blend of gothic and death metal, Tribulation are not ones to repeat a formula and on Sub Rosa in Æternum, they conjure a new beast. Part psychological horror of Italian cinema, part gaunt British goth, and part Art Deco opulence. It was released on November 1st, 2024, via Century Media Records. The ever-evolving face of Tribulation is on clear display here and they can never be accused of stagnating. Another strong example of them being imaginative and interesting. When it’s good (Saturn Coming Down, Murder in Red, Reaping Song), it’s really freaking good. Tribulation as untouchable as ever. Read our full review of the new album here: https://www.gbhbl.com/album-review-tribulation-sub-rosa-in-aeternum-century-media-records/ We spoke to guitarist Adam Zaars (cold and all) about the new album and the creative energy the band found they had when it came to making it a reality.
