Making Creativity Pay

Dan Barnett

Welcome to ‘Making Creativity Pay’, this isn’t a podcast about making millions, more about speaking to people in creative industries whether that’s music, literature, art or anything that relies on creativity about how that ties in with making a living from it. The aim is not about selling out any creative endeavour but to ensure that there is at least some way to pay the bills and keep the lights on, money can be seen to be a vulgar part of the process but getting fairly paid for the time, effort and expertise you put in to something shouldn't be a bad thing.

Krystal Evans - Hottest Girl at Burn Camp, Mitchell and Webb and Stand-up

“ I'm very keenly aware of the whole, reliving my life thing in different forms and having that replace my real memories sometimes, and that can be a kind of a scary thing because it is this thing that happened to me that I didn't talk about for so many years and like in public, like never, you know? And now I've spoken about it in so many forms and you know how memory works, you tell it and you keep remembering it and the memory can change ” - Latest guest Comedian and Author Krystal Evans We talk about her experience as one of the writers and performers on Channel 4’s 'Mitchell and Webb are Not Helping', her experiences as a stand up and her Fringe show ‘Hottest Girl at Burn Camp’ and the book and the audiobook of the same name which detail some her childhood experiences and how comedy can come from tragic experiences. We also talk about the Scottish comedy scene, her Sex and Relationships podcast ‘Chris and Krystal are in Heat’ with fellow Comedian Chris Weir and being part of a crowdfunder for upcoming short film “How we’re really actually doing” Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/krystalevanscomedy/  Hottest Girl in Burn Camp Book: https://linktr.ee/thehottestgirlatburncamp  Audiobook on Spotify:https://open.spotify.com/show/1kldAghwmjrj3wxDF0PMZL  Mitchell and Webb are not helping: https://www.channel4.com/programmes/mitchell-and-webb-are-not-helping  Website: https://www.comedykrystal.com/  Chris and Krystal are in heat Podcast: https://shows.acast.com/chris-and-krystal-are-in-heat  Linktree: https://linktr.ee/krystalevans  “How we’re really actually doing” film: https://www.instagram.com/hwrad.film/  Find More about ‘Making Creativity Pay’ Twitter: https://twitter.com/Beyond_the_Pod  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/makingcreativitypay/  LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/danjbarnett/  Making Creativity Pay Newsletter: https://makingcreativitypay.substack.com/

Slumber Parties and Fight Clubs with Charlotte Cropper

“ So we have a main rule at comedy club that there's no toilet humour because it's too easy, I can make a fart sound and the room will explode with giggles. So we try and really emphasize that it's about being clever. I want you to go home to your grownups, whoever's looking after you. And I want them to be like, I'm genuinely impressed that you've come up with that joke or that character or that sketch idea or whatever.” Comedian, Podcaster, Poet and more Charlotte Cropper. We talk about Charlotte’s job working as a facilitator for kids after-school comedy workshops, her comedy night Slumber Party that she runs in Manchester, as well as Fight Club a writing support group and collective and a load of other creative endeavours Instagram:  https://www.instagram.com/croppachoppa/  https://www.instagram.com/slumber.party.comedy/  Website:   https://www.charlottecropper.co.uk/  Nottingham Comedy Festival (2nd Nov): https://www.nottinghamcomedyfestival.co.uk/charlotte-cropper---beth-moore--croppachoppa-s-slumber-party  Golden Time Podcast: Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/podcast/id1821766240  Spotify:https://open.spotify.com/show/1fAE9Ovn1FWYi58HwI2Ke0  Other Gigs, Fight Club and more: https://linktr.ee/charlottecropper  TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@croppachoppa  Find More about ‘Making Creativity Pay’ Website: https://podcasting.makingcreativitypay.com/episodes/  Twitter: https://twitter.com/Beyond_the_Pod  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/makingcreativitypay/  LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/danjbarnett/  Making Creativity Pay Newsletter: https://makingcreativitypay.substack.com/

Cheerful Earful and The Golden Lobes

“  We've done a couple of boat cruises with Brian Blessed called Overboard with Brian Blessed, which was great fun 'cause people just love being in the room with him. The first one we did on the Thames, we'd written this beautiful script about all of the facts about this, that and the other when we passed them on the river and he sort of had the piece of paper and went, what the fuck is this? And just literally threw it out the window and then just started telling stories for two hours.” Giles Gear founder of Giddy Aunt Comedy and founder of the Cheerful Earful Podcast festival which starts in the UK on the 12th October. We talk about how the festival came about, the importance of building a community and also other parts of Giddy Aunt comedy including the fantastically named Golden Lobes which is a podcast awards evening which has representation from indie podcasters through to national giants. We also talk about the range of live events Giddy Aunt has set up including Louis Theroux, Brian Blessed and many more.  Festival Tickets: https://cheerfulearful.podlifeevents.com/  Instagram:  https://www.instagram.com/cheerfulearfulpodfest/  https://www.instagram.com/giddyauntcomedy/  Website:   https://www.cheerfulearful.co.uk/  https://www.giddyauntcomedy.com/  Find More about ‘Making Creativity Pay’ Website: https://podcasting.makingcreativitypay.com/episodes/  Twitter: https://twitter.com/Beyond_the_Pod  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/makingcreativitypay/  LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/danjbarnett/  Making Creativity Pay Newsletter: https://makingcreativitypay.substack.com/
