8 Hour Rain Noise for Sleeping with Distant Rumbling Thunder

Heavy rain falling on dense forest foliage and rumbling thunder sounds creates a truly tranquil atmosphere, bringing a sense of peace and quiet to those who are fortunate enough to experience it. That is why we trekked deep into the forest, searching for the perfect spot to record this beautiful ambience and bring it to your home. Playing this thunder and rain noise to sleep at night is a great way to help you feel tired and reduce stress after a busy day. It can also help mask outside sounds that distract you as you try to fall asleep, such as a busy highway or a noisy neighbor. If you enjoy the sounds of nature as much as we do, you will love this thunderstorm and rain sound for sleeping when you go to bed tonight! At Relaxing White Noise, our goal is to help you sleep well. This episode is eight hours long with no advertisements in the middle, so you can use it as a sleeping sound throughout the night. Listening to our white noise sounds via the podcast gives you the freedom to lock your phone at night, keeping your bedroom dark as you fall asleep. It also allows you to switch between apps while studying or working with no interruption in the ambient sound. Contact Us for Partnership Inquiries Relaxing White Noise is the number one destination on YouTube for white noise and nature sounds to help you sleep, study or soothe a baby. With more than a billion views across YouTube and other platforms, we are excited to now share our popular ambient tracks on the Relaxing White Noise podcast. People use white noise for sleeping, focus, sound masking or relaxation. We couldn't be happier to help folks live better lives. This podcast has the sound for you whether you use white noise for studying, to soothe a colicky baby, to fall asleep or for simply enjoying a peaceful moment. No need to buy a white noise machine when you can listen to these sounds for free. Cheers to living your best life! DISCLAIMER: Remember that loud sounds can potentially damage your hearing. When playing one of our ambiences, if you cannot have a conversation over the sound without raising your voice, the sound may be too loud for your ears. Please do not place speakers right next to a baby’s ears. If You Can't Stop Thinking About Your Ex, Do This (The Path To Real Closure)

Some endings hurt because they leave us with unanswered questions. After a breakup, it’s natural to search for reasons, replay memories, and hope for one final conversation that will make everything make sense. In this episode, Jay explores why closure is often misunderstood and how the answers we seek from someone else rarely bring the peace we’re hoping for. True healing begins when we stop waiting for another person to explain our pain and start turning inward instead. Jay shares a powerful perspective on heartbreak: closure is not something we receive, it’s something we create. Through acceptance, self-reflection, and intentional healing, we can transform loss into growth. Rather than centering our lives around what ended, we learn to rebuild around who we are becoming. The goal isn’t to erase the past, it’s to emerge from it with greater self-awareness, stronger boundaries, and a deeper trust in ourselves. In this episode you'll learn: How to Heal Through No Contact How to Rebuild Yourself After Heartbreak How to Separate Facts From Feelings How to Stop Romanticizing Your Ex How to Turn Heartbreak Into Growth How to Measure Healing the Right Way Heartbreak has a way of convincing us that healing is somewhere in the future, waiting behind the perfect explanation, apology, or final conversation. But growth often begins the moment we stop chasing what we cannot control and start caring for what we can. #395 - Brain lipidology: understanding APOE, cholesterol homeostasis, Alzheimer's disease risk, and the effects of lipid-lowering therapies on brain health | Tom Dayspring, M.D.

View the Show Notes Page for This Episode Become a Member to Receive Exclusive Content Sign Up to Receive Peter's Weekly Newsletter Tom Dayspring is a world-renowned lipidologist and one of the most thoughtful teachers in the field of lipid metabolism. In this episode, Tom returns to The Drive for a deep dive into the relationship between lipids and brain health, beginning with the fundamentals of cholesterol transport before exploring why the brain's cholesterol system operates almost entirely independently from the rest of the body. Tom examines the roles of apoB, apoA-I, and especially apoE in cholesterol homeostasis, discusses how APOE genotype influences Alzheimer's disease risk, and unpacks the complex links between cholesterol metabolism, amyloid, and tau pathology. He also reviews what is currently known—and still uncertain—about the effects of statins, ezetimibe, omega-3 fatty acids, and emerging CETP inhibitors on brain health and neurodegenerative disease risk. Although highly technical, this conversation provides an essential framework for understanding the nuanced relationship between lipid-lowering therapies, cardiovascular disease prevention, and neurodegenerative diseases in an area often clouded by misinformation. We discuss: The fundamentals of cholesterol transport in the body, and how peripheral cholesterol metabolism differs from cholesterol handling in the brain [2:45]; How cholesterol is transported through plasma and stored within cells, and why lowering LDL cholesterol does not deplete the body or brain of cholesterol [11:45]; How apoB particles drive atherosclerosis, why lowering lipids matters, and the factors that influence individual cardiovascular risk [20:00]; How the brain produces and transports its own cholesterol using apoE lipoproteins independently of circulating cholesterol and apoB-containing lipoproteins [29:00]; How apoB structure influences LDL receptor binding and LDL clearance [39:00]; How neurons acquire cholesterol from apoE-containing lipoproteins and why desmosterol serves as a unique marker of cholesterol synthesis in the brain [41:45]; The difference between the APOE gene and the apoE protein, the major APOE genotypes found in humans, and how APOE4 influences Alzheimer's disease risk [48:45]; HDL function beyond cholesterol: immune function, protein cargo, and communication with the brain [53:30]; How APOE4-associated defects in brain cholesterol transport may promote Alzheimer's disease: amyloid production, neuronal cholesterol homeostasis, and cholesterol clearance [58:00]; Statins and brain health: reviewing the evidence of the potential impact of statins on cognition and Alzheimer's disease risk [1:09:00]; Desmosterol and 24S-hydroxycholesterol as biomarkers of brain cholesterol metabolism and statin effects [1:17:15]; Possible cognitive benefits of ezetimibe beyond lowering apoB [1:19:30]; EPA, DHA, and the evidence for omega-3 fatty acids in brain health [1:23:15]; Obicetrapib: an emerging CETP inhibitor with potential implications for both cardiovascular and brain health [1:31:00]; and More. The Genetics Of Great Runners Explained | Extra Mile

Are athletes born or built? This episode dives into the nature vs. nurture debate, exploring why the Human Genome Project proved there's no single gene for speed or disease, and why 99.1% of our DNA is identical. We break down how genes like ACTN3 can give elite athletes a head start in muscle repair and VO2 max, but never guarantee greatness. Through epigenetics, we reveal how your lifestyle and environment are the real switches, using Spencer's own journey from alcohol abuse to elite marathon runner as proof. The bottom line: for the average person, consistency beats genetics every time. Your DNA only becomes the deciding factor at the very top. Dr. Ramani: If You're Thinking About Going No Contact With a Family Member - Listen to THIS (How to Know If It's Time To Walk Away)

Some relationships leave us questioning whether love is enough to stay. In this conversation, Jay sits down with Dr. Ramani to explore the painful reality of family estrangement and the growing number of people considering no contact with those closest to them. Together, they unpack the difference between self-protection and punishment, why guilt often accompanies healthy boundaries, and how years of unresolved hurt can lead someone to step away from a relationship they once fought hard to save. Rather than offering simple answers, this episode invites a deeper reflection on safety, repair, accountability, and healing. It challenges the belief that family ties should come at the expense of your well-being and reminds us that choosing yourself is rarely easy. Whether you're navigating a difficult relationship, supporting someone who is, or trying to understand a loved one's decision, this conversation offers compassion, clarity, and the reassurance that healing doesn't always look the way we expect. In this episode you'll learn: How to Know When No Contact Is Necessary How to Stop Abandoning Yourself for Family How to Recognize When Repair Isn’t Working How to Handle Guilt After Going No Contact How to Protect Your Peace Around Toxic Relatives How to Navigate Family Pressure and Backlash How to Choose Self-Protection Over Self-Betrayal Not every relationship is meant to be kept at the cost of your peace. Sometimes healing means repairing a connection, and sometimes it means creating distance from what continues to hurt you. 431. Why a boring life is beautiful

What might be seen as a ‘boring’ life is often just a life that wouldn’t be as popular on Instagram. In a world that glamorises chaos, spontaneity and constant stimulation, we need to create lives that truly nourish us, provide safety, and align with who we really are. In this episode, we explore the psychology behind why so many of us begin craving calm as we get older, why that can feel oddly threatening, and why slowing down may be one of the best things we can do for our brains. We explore:•        Why many of us start craving a more manageable, peaceful life•        Why this can create fear, guilt, or cognitive dissonance in our 20s•        The pressure from social media to make youth look chaotic and exciting•        The role of FOMO in feeling disconnected from our real preferences•        Why our brains crave novelty•        What a ‘boring’ life is actually made of: boundaries, routine, presence, and self-trust Watch on Netflix: HERE Follow Jemma on Instagram: @jemmasbeg Follow the podcast on Instagram: @thatpsychologypodcast Subscribe on Substack: @thepsychologyofyour20s For business: psychologyofyour20s@gmail.com  Our favourite sources: https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/development-and-psychopathology/article/abs/differential-changes-in-impulsivity-and-sensation-seeking-and-the-escalation-of-substance-use-from-adolescence-to-early-adulthood/3542107D68176F9B55BC0A2DB212C701 https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0747563213000800 https://www.nature.com/articles/nrn1052 https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.1250830 The Psychology of your 20s is not a substitute for professional mental health help. Dr Fede Amati

Weight and weight loss is something that we have struggled to understand properly for decades. Whether its a fad diet, a new theory or an alternative approach, it's something we have been discussing and often misunderstanding, for many years. With the introduction of GLP1s, this has only increased. GLP-1 medications have changed the conversation around weight, appetite and health in a way few of us could have predicted. But what happens before you start, while you're on them, and after? Dr Fede Amati, who has joined us on The Midpoint before, is a Medical Scientist and Registered Public Health Nutritionist who has been at the forefront of the research into how food and our bodies interact — and her brilliant new book tackles one of the most talked about topics in health right now. In this episode of Midpoint, Gabby sits down with Dr Amati for a conversation about what these medications actually do, why what you eat alongside them matters more than you might think, and how to build a relationship with food that serves you at every stage of life. No judgement, no fads — just really good science explained clearly. Dr Fede Amati's new book, The Appetite Reset: How to Eat, Drink and Thrive Before, During and After GLP-1s, is published by Penguin Michael Joseph and is out now, priced £25. Hosted on Acast.
