  1. EP.53: Matt Sia - Leading With Care (LIVE in NYC)

EP.53: Matt Sia - Leading With Care (LIVE in NYC)

This one’s special… our first EVER live episode, recorded in Manhattan, NYC at the Pearlfisher studio, with the Empire State Building glowing pink behind us. Mad ting. For EP.53, I’m joined by someone who’s not just an incredible creative leader, but someone who’s genuinely shown up for me when it mattered most… Matt Sia. Whether he’s cooking up something in the kitchen, writing and performing music, making jewellery, or stepping out in his unmistakable swag…Matt is always building, shaping, creating. It’s just who he is. He’s led work across both challenger brands and global icons — from innovations like hum by Colgate and Tecate ALTA, to premium spirits with Diageo, Campari and Beam Suntory. He’s even partnered with McDonald’s to lead the global redesign of their food packaging. But this conversation isn’t about titles… it’s about how you lead, who you are, and what you stand for. We get into:• What it really means to lead with care (not the LinkedIn version… the real thing)• Feeling like an outsider in the industry and pushing through it• Imposter syndrome, self-doubt, and finding your place• Why there are no shortcuts in design or life• The moments where cutting corners costs you more than failing• How music, food, and culture shaped his creative mindset• The responsibility of shaping culture through design Matt opens up about not always seeing himself as “the strong designer”, and how persistence, curiosity, and staying true to himself unlocked everything. This one’s for the creatives, the quiet leaders, the ones figuring it out as they go… and anyone trying to build something meaningful without losing themselves in the process. Stories from the heart that make mums proud. Big love to everyone who pulled up and made this happen 🩷More live shows coming soon…

EP. 50: Debbie Millman - The Long Road to Becoming Yourself & finding your way

This episode is a big one.Not only is it Episode 50 of WDYMT, but I’m joined by someone who helped shape the very idea of creative podcasting.Today I’m sitting down with Debbie Millman — designer, author, , illustrator, educator and the legendary host of Design Matters, one of the longest-running podcasts in the world. For over 20 years and over 500 episodes, Debbie has interviewed some of the most influential voices in creativity and culture — including Rick Rubin, Brené Brown, Milton Glaser, Simon Sinek, Questlove, Marina Abramović, Paula Scher, Jessica Walsh, Tim Ferriss and Neil deGrasse Tyson.Long before podcasting became what it is today, Debbie was already creating space for deep, thoughtful conversations about creativity, identity and the lives behind the work.In this conversation we go right back to the beginning.Debbie shares stories from growing up in Brooklyn, the moment she first understood the emotional power of brands, and the unexpected career path that eventually led her to become President of Sterling Brands. We also talk about the early days of Design Matters, recording interviews on a telephone line from the Empire State Building — years before podcasting exploded.Along the way we explore:• Why meaningful careers often take decades, not years• The courage it takes to change direction later in life• What Debbie has learned from interviewing hundreds of extraordinary people• The power of curiosity, resilience and storytelling• And what it really means to design your lifeThis episode is especially surreal for me — because WDYMT wouldn’t exist without Debbie and Design Matters.Massive love to Debbie for joining me for Episode 50.Sit back, enjoy.WDYMT TO THE WORLD 🌍🩷Stories from the heart that make mums proud.–What Does Your Mum Think (WDYMT) is a podcast for anyone out here trying to make their mum proud.Hosted by Sheps, designer, podcaster, martial arts practitioner and a lifelong believer that if your mum gets it, you’re doing something right. Each episode, Sheps sits down with inspiring people who are figuring it out in this mad world, talking to the humans behind the hustle, the passion and the journey.Stories from the heart that make mums proud.–Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/wdymt_official/TikTokhttps://www.tiktok.com/@whatdoesyourmumthinkSpotifyhttps://open.spotify.com/show/4UQ1fAYGya2gOpUlyXSaPk

EP. 49: Mat Voyce - The quiet struggles behind a global creative career

WE BACK! This week I’m joined by the very talented Mat Voyce.Mat’s journey started as a graphic designer, but what makes his story special is how he followed his curiosity. He spent years experimenting, playing around with type and teaching himself motion. Not for clients. Not for recognition. Just for the love of the craft. That curiosity turned into his signature style. Today, Mat is known around the world for his type design and type animation, working with some huge names including BBC, The LA Times, Disney+, Honda, Netflix and ESPN.In this episode we talk about backing yourself before anyone else does, the power of experimentation, and how personal work can open doors you never expected. We also get into the patience, the quiet graft and the mental resilience it takes to build something long term and trust your own lane.If you’re a designer, animator or anyone trying to turn passion into something bigger, this one’s for you.Run it up.–What Does Your Mum Think (WDYMT) is a podcast for anyone out here trying to make their mum proud.Hosted by Sheps, designer, podcaster, martial arts practitioner and a lifelong believer that if your mum gets it, you’re doing something right.

  4. EP. 48: Alex Center - Designing brands worth Billions with care at the Center

    25 FEB

EP. 48: Alex Center - Designing brands worth Billions with care at the Center

Alex Center is the founder of CENTER, the Brooklyn-based studio behind brands like Bero, Butter, United Sodas of America, Ghostwriter, and more — building challenger brands that don’t just sit on shelves, but move culture. He also founded & hosts the 'Front & Center' podcast alongside Kevvvvvvvin. Overall, he's a real one. Before that, he spent over a decade inside the Coca-Cola system, working across Vitaminwater, Smartwater and Powerade, and was there as Vitaminwater grew from a small startup into a business that sold for $4.1 billion. Did he get a slice though? From interning at the New York Knicks, to becoming the first designer at Vitaminwater, to building his own studio in Brooklyn — his journey is all about backing your instinct, building strong culture, and leading with care. We talk about leadership, fitness and mindset, working with celebrities like 50 Cent, starting your own studio, and what it really takes to build brands that people don’t just see — but feel. And on a personal one — before I moved to New York, Alex gave me his time and showed proper love. He signed off with:“From Brooklyn to Manny.”So today… BIG UPS FROM HARLEM TO BROOKLYN.WDYMT to the world. Run it up!
