  • House prices, performative fiscal theatre and the existential threat facing the EU.

House prices, performative fiscal theatre and the existential threat facing the EU.

This episode ranges from a personal Camino de Santiago walk to a hard-edged discussion about housing markets, public finances, and political risk in the UK and Europe. Chris and Jim connect the dots between weak growth, planning bottlenecks, budget theatre, and the social strain that builds when economies stop expanding. We discuss Ireland’s housing market cooling, the UK’s fiscal outlook ahead of the budget, and why policy uncertainty is making long-term investment harder. The conversation also widens to Germany, France, the EU budget, and the bigger question of whether Western political systems can still sustain growth. Hosted on Acast. Rick Rubin: What Jay-Z Did in 30 Minutes Left Me Speechless!

Discover the spiritual and psychological creative process that legendary producer Rick Rubin uses to help the world's biggest artists transcend and achieve greatness. Rick Rubin is the co-founder of Def Jam Recordings, and the author of the philosophical bestseller The Creative Act: A Way of Being. Having collaborated with icons like Jay-Z, Johnny Cash, Adele, Tom Petty, and Kanye West, Rubin does not rely on commercial metrics or audience testing to guide his workflow. He shares practical strategies for dismantling the prisons of identity, harnessing the power of "indefensible" ideas, and cultivating a state of pure creative freedom. In this episode, he explains: ■ The "Indefensible" Act: Why the greatest artistic breakthroughs defy logic and market research. ■ The Vacuum Strategy: How walking away from obligations that no longer serve you creates an energetic void, allowing the universe to present massive unexpected opportunities. ■ The Audience Trap: Why focusing on commercial incentives and audience expectations completely undermines the creative process. ■ Deconstructing the Greats: The psychological traits that separate good musicians from generational icons. ■ The Trauma of Success: Rubin opens up about his crippling depressive episode at age 33 after a corporate restructuring at Def Jam. • Should Ireland share its corporation tax bonanza with the EU?

Should Ireland share its corporation tax bonanza with the EU?

On this episode of Inside Business, we look at Ireland’s bulging tax receipts from the major multinationals. Last week in an interview with Naomi O’Leary of The Irish Times, French finance minister Roland Lesscure suggested that this bounty should be shared around Europe, to reflect where the revenue is generated. Naturally, this went down like a lead balloon with our Minister for Finance Simon Harris. To discuss this, host Ciarán Hancock was joined on the line by Naomi, who is based in Paris for the Irish Times, and in studio by our in-house corporate tax expert Cliff Taylor. What was the French minister’s justification for demanding a share of our corporate tax swag, and does he have a point? Plus, Irish house price growth has been going gangbusters since 2013 and are now 28 per cent ahead of their Celtic Tiger peak. But recent indicators from estate agents and the CSO suggest the level of price growth is on the wane. Fiona Reddan has been looking at the trends in Irish house prices for the Irish Times, and she joined Ciarán in studio to discuss whether Irish house prices are likely to begin to fall. Produced by John Casey with JJ Vernon on sound. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Money Makeover: 'We earn €80k combined and don’t know where the money goes’

"Money doesn't have to be a point of anxiety for households," says financial expert Cian Carolan as he and host Katie Byrne run the rule over how to go about reducing stress and the steps that can take the fear out of managing a household budget. "If they were to sit down and honestly drill into the granular details of where their money goes, it would surprise them – but it's all fixable." Money Talks is part of the Trust Project. Wills, windfalls and inheritance tax: Here’s how to understand them in Ireland

Irish Times deputy business editor, Dominic Coyle, and trust and estate practitioner,Trea McGuinness, discuss what’s set to be the biggest transfer of generational wealth ever in Ireland. That’s because the over 65s own the lion’s share of the country’s private wealth and they’re set to pass on billions of euro – much of it tied up in property – over the coming decades. But McGuinness, who’s a partner with BHSM, emphasises it’s important for younger people to draw up a will and not to fall into the trap of thinking they don’t have an estate to pass on. In this conversation with host Aideen Finnegan, they discuss whether it’s better to gift assets while alive, the risk of people impoverishing themselves to leave money behind, and how inheritance can trigger bitter family disputes. The episode also covers intestacy rules, rights of residence complications, divorce and capital gains issues, blended families, cohabiting couples being taxed like “strangers.” This episode is for information purposes only and does not constitute financial or legal advice. "I Lost €660 Million. I Made €800 Million." Seán Quinn Answers Your Questions | The Quinn Files EP4

Sean Quinn answers your questions. After 2.5 million views and thousands of comments, Sean sits back down with Sammy Heaney to take on the questions people actually asked: what the loans really were, who ended up with the assets, why one banker went to prison and nobody else did, and the word that keeps coming up in the comments - greed. He also speaks for the first time about the RTÉ documentary, and about the deposit he says was paid before editorial control changed the story he was promised. Everything in this episode is Seán Quinn's own account. Where he makes allegations about named individuals or organisations, those are his allegations, and every person and organisation named has been offered a right of reply in writing. Seán Quinn Breaks His Silence: The €488 Million Nobody Agreed To | The Quinn Files EP1

Seán Quinn built one of the biggest privately owned businesses in Ireland from nothing. Then it all came apart — and not the way most people think. In this first episode Seán sits down to walk through how a bet on Anglo Irish Bank shares turned into the biggest financial collapse the country has ever seen, and how his family ended up holding hundreds of millions in debt they say they never agreed to. He gets into the numbers, the calls that were made behind closed doors, and what it actually felt like watching it all unravel in real time. This is the first time a lot of this has been said publicly, in his own words. All episodes are out now.
