The Murders of George and Catherine Peacock (Vermont)

The Murders of George and Catherine Peacock (Vermont)

When an elderly couple was found murdered inside their Danby, Vermont home in the fall of 1989, it had residents of the small town looking over their shoulders and double-checking their door locks at night.

State Police identified a suspect early on in the investigation, but the evidence they had against this person was largely circumstantial, and the physical evidence, a single drop of blood, wasn’t enough to point to a suspect. And so, the double murder sat unsolved for over thirty years until 2020, when the case was reopened with the hope that new forensic DNA analysis could finally shine a light on long-concealed answers.

By the time it went to trial, Rita St. Peter’s case would be the longest standing unsolved homicide in the state of Maine. Yet the person believed to be responsible for her violent death had been at the top of the suspect list from the very first day of the investigation.

This story is proof that even decades later, cold cases can be solved.

Excellent podcast

Heard Ashley Flowers talking about this podcast. It's another Audiochuck production so she didn't need to say it twice so I popped over for a listen and so glad I did. This podcast is super good and very well produced. Really enjoying this and would highly recommend it.

Highly recommend

I started listening to this after a friend friend sent me a TikTok recommending it. I started by listening to the Sophie Sergie episodes. Not only are they two of the best podcast episodes about crimes against indigenous women but also this is one of the best true crime podcasts I’ve ever heard! Excited to binge all of the episodes, and looking forward to the new content as well! So respectful and would highly recommend
