Season 1

  1. My Body, My Fertility, My Contraception

    EPISODE 1

My Body, My Fertility, My Contraception

Let’s start at the beginning - how does your menstrual cycle work and how can contraception support it as we age and as our bodies or needs change? Specialising in female health for over 30 years, in this episode I’m joined by Dr. Deirdre Lundy. Originally from the US Deirdre attended UCD medical school and never went back. She has worked for all the family planning clinics around Dublin and is now based in the Bray Women’s Clinic. She has also worked for the Irish College of General Practitioners in the Women’s Health department and the GP gynaecology clinics in the Rotunda, Coombe and National Maternity Hospitals. And if that’s not enough, she also is passionate about training new doctors in her role at the Royal College of Surgeons where she introduces young medical students to the art of interviewing and examining patients with greater respect and kindness. Here we talk about caring for our fertility, easing painful or heavy periods, and tackling the symptoms of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and endometriosis. So let’s discuss our bodies, our plans and our needs more so our healthcare providers can guide us towards the right options. For more information on this episode visit everymum.
