I enjoy this podcast despite Scott
Kara walks a fine line between challenging Scott when he fails to recognise how his views are products of his privilege and preventing derailment. I learn a lot from her. Scott has that tendency, unfortunately common among privileged American white men of a certain age, to speak with great authority on topics he knows nothing about. Kara knows the limits of her expertise and stays within those boundaries much better. Scott needs to take a few social science classes to realise how little he knows about things such as health and medicine, inequality, youth mental health, gender, hegemony, the effects of capitalism, nationalism, ideology, and power. Don’t mistake living in a society for understanding how society works. Don’t mistake your expertise in one domain for expertise in others.
This matters because of the epistemic risk - risk of being wrong about a matter of fact, which becomes an ethical risk of harm when the impressions you espouse as authoritative truth entail real-world consequences. Most lay explanations for social phenomena reflect taken-for-granted assumptions and hegemonic ideologies that protect the powerful and maintain oppression. Check yourself.
Morally bankrupt
I was obsessed with this podcast for the last 4 years but Scott’s moral bankruptcy on the mass murder of innocent men women and children in Gaza, with the platform he has, means I am out. Truly horrifying.
Hypocritical stance on Bitcoin & crypto
I was wondering why Scott Galloway recently changed his tune on Bitcoin : he was a complete sceptic until about a month ago when he suggested it should be part of balanced portfolio- after which crypto crashed - along with the market - thought it was a bit hypocritical!
