Discworld books are both some of the most over-hyped and slept-on works of recent decades. As time goes on, everyone has Opinions that seem to build a mythology of the man rather than the actual work. So do we, but we have the mic and just read the books. We won’t tell you Book Bad or Book Good; instead, we tackle the work of Sir Terry Pratchett, this time through a queer, trans, Marxist, constructivist lens. We wonder why his footprint in literature is remarkably subdued for the reach and success he had, examine how relevant the books of Discworld are today, and ask the most important question: is Terry the same kind of communist that you are?  Every month, an episode on a new book!

    The Light Fantastic

    The Light Fantastic blankets the Discworld but causes quite a difference of opinions among the cast. Rincewind and Twoflowers are at it again, and this time they are not just doing fantasy pastiche. Join us in this month’s reading: the evolution of hippies into yuppies, the rise of fascism among the population and academic positivism, the power of Dryad Diades, hatred for the mysterious ways of the Druids, what you can and cannot say in the year 2026 of the Century of Fruit-bat. What Sir Terry would think about the ending of Baldur’s Gate 3, how much he hated cyclical stories and enjoyed endings that would rot your teeth, and speculation about his familiarity with pecuniary enforcement differences between Cyrodiil and Morrowind. Something about the absurd ways tourists construe meaning?  Introducing our most recurring character: Incrementalism Terry. And turns out? Our Woke King Terry Pratchett *IS* just the same type of communist as you are, listener.     The Colour of Magic

    Turns out the Colour of Magic really is the same Colour of a donkey running away! Or something about the economy, Thatcher and a wild fantasy world called the “Discworld”. A place so unlike our world, where every financial instrument is gambling and the only way to make money is through scams! And something about tourists, Cthulhus, barbarian heroes, Dragonriders, Trans-dimensional Zionism and how you Need a Slave System To Have A Space Program because the shadow cast by Mittelbau-Dora is long.  The girls meet a guy named Rincewind. They are only kept from killing him with hammers by the power of capital embodied in a nice chest. And turns out?
