A Legacy of Strength: What My Mom Taught Me About Faith, Fitness, and Life

Episode Summary In this heartfelt and deeply personal episode of The Living Transformed Podcast, Caroline sits down with a very special guest, her mom, Carolyn Morazan, to talk about what it truly means to live a life marked by consistency, faith, and quiet strength. As part of the Season 5 theme ASCEND, this conversation highlights how real strength is not built overnight, but through years of faithful, intentional choices. Carolyn shares her story of staying committed to her health, her faith, and serving others through every season of life - from raising a family to navigating hardship, to continuing to pursue growth and purpose in her later years. Together, they reflect on the power of consistency, the importance of accountability, and how community plays a vital role in both joyful and difficult seasons. Through stories of endurance, including over 20 years of participating in MS charity bike rides, and honest moments of walking through depression, this episode offers both inspiration and practical encouragement. This conversation is a reminder that legacy isn’t built in big, flashy moments, it’s built in the quiet, daily decision to show up. Whether you’re feeling motivated or struggling to stay consistent, this episode will encourage you to start small, stay faithful, and keep moving forward. About Carolyn Carolyn Morazan grew up in Commerce, Georgia, and earned her Bachelor of Arts in English and Elementary Education from Mercer University, as well as her Master of Education in Early Childhood Education from University of New Orleans. She is deeply grateful for her many years in Episcopal school education, serving as a kindergarten teacher for 30 years and later as a preschool and lower school principal for 12 years at Canterbury School in Greensboro, North Carolina.  After retiring in 2015, Carolyn and her husband, Charlie, moved to Athens in 2020 during the pandemic. She has especially cherished living just two miles from her daughter, son-in-law, and three grandchildren. Carolyn enjoys an active lifestyle, including cycling, working out, reading, walking, and traveling. Since 2003, she has been passionate about fundraising for multiple sclerosis through participation in numerous bike rides each year. She has raised over $125,000 for the cause and hopes to continue riding for many years to come.  Shortly after moving to Athens, Carolyn joined Emmanuel Episcopal Church, where she serves on the Welcoming Committee and the EEDS Advisory Board. What to Expect in This Episode Carolyn’s story and the experiences that shaped her life How consistency has been a guiding principle in both faith and health The impact of growing up in an active, faith-filled home Why accountability is essential for long-term growth The role of community in both strong and difficult seasons A powerful testimony of walking through depression and healing How movement, routine, and support contribute to emotional health The significance of serving others and living with purpose Lessons learned from over 20 years of MS bike rides Why discipline is often quiet, steady, and unseen Encouragement for women struggling with inconsistency The importance of starting small and taking the first step How daily habits shape long-term legacy What it means to live a life of strength that impacts future generations Key Takeaways True strength is built through consistency, not perfection. Small, faithful steps over time create lasting transformation. Accountability and community are essential for growth. You don’t have to walk through hard seasons alone. Movement and routine can support both mental and emotional health. Serving others brings purpose and connection. Legacy is built in the everyday moments of faithfulness. Start small—but don’t wait to begin. Scripture Anchors Philippians 3:14 — “Press on toward the goal…” Galatians 6:9 — “Let us not grow weary in doing good…” 1 Corinthians 15:58 — “Stand firm… always give yourselves fully…” Practical Ways to Stay Consistent Start Small Don’t overwhelm yourself—take simple, manageable steps. Find Accountability Invite a friend to walk with you, pray with you, or grow alongside you. Stay Consistent, Not Perfect When you fall off track, begin again without shame. Get Outside & Move Movement can be a powerful tool for both physical and emotional health. Create Simple Rhythms Daily habits like walking, prayer, or reading can anchor your day. Join a Community Whether it’s a gym, church, or group—connection helps sustain growth. Final Encouragement Strength isn’t built in a single moment. Episode Summary In this meaningful and encouraging episode of The Living Transformed Podcast, Caroline sits down with Lesley Platek - storyteller, legacy keeper, and host of Classic City Rewind, to explore the power of community and why no one is meant to rise alone. As part of the Season 5 theme ASCEND, this conversation highlights how true growth is not just personal, it is deeply relational. Lesley shares her journey of moving to Athens, navigating seasons of loneliness and transition, and ultimately discovering the life-changing impact of intentional community. Together, Caroline and Lesley unpack how community shapes who we become, supports us in both joy and hardship, and helps anchor us in seasons of change. They discuss the courage it takes to step out, build relationships, and lean into uncomfortable spaces in order to experience connection. Lesley also shares her heart behind preserving stories and building legacy, reminding listeners that the seeds we plant today - through relationships, service, and presence - can impact generations to come. This episode is a powerful reminder that ascending isn’t about going higher alone, it’s about rising together, rooted in connection, supported by others, and committed to building a life that lasts. Whether you’re new to a city, feeling disconnected, or longing for deeper relationships, this conversation will encourage you to take the first step toward community, and not retreat. What to Expect in This Episode Lesley’s journey of moving to Athens and finding community Why community is essential for growth, healing, and belonging How seasons of loneliness can lead to deeper connection The idea that “community models what matters” Why we are not meant to rise alone How life transitions impact identity and connection The role of community in both joyful and difficult seasons Why building community requires intentional action The importance of stepping out of your comfort zone How preserving stories creates lasting legacy What it means to be a “legacy keeper” How small acts of connection can shape a meaningful life Why serving others helps build stronger community Encouragement for women who feel hesitant to put themselves out there Key Takeaways No one is meant to ascend alone—community is essential. Community shapes who we become and what we value. Building meaningful relationships requires intentional action. Growth and comfort do not exist together. Small steps of connection can lead to lasting belonging. Your legacy is built through the people you love and invest in. Serving others is a powerful way to find purpose and community. Stepping out of fear and choosing not to retreat leads to growth. Scripture Anchors Philippians 3:14 — “Press on toward the goal…” Genesis 2:18 — “It is not good for man to be alone.” Hebrews 10:24–25 — “Let us consider how we may spur one another on…” Practical Ways to Build Community Don’t Retreat Lean into hard conversations, new environments, and opportunities to connect. Take the First Step Join a group, introduce yourself, or show up consistently—action builds connection. Embrace Discomfort Growth happens when you step outside of what feels easy or familiar. Invest in Relationships Be present, follow up, and intentionally pour into the people around you. Serve Others Find a local organization or need—serving creates shared purpose and connection. Final Encouragement You don’t have to do life alone. Even if stepping into community feels uncomfortable or unfamiliar, you are not meant to retreat. Start small. Show up. Stay consistent. How Do We Rise Higher? The Secret Is JOY

Episode Summary In this powerful and joy-filled episode of The Living Transformed Podcast, Caroline sits down with Laura Hope Whitaker, CEO of Extra Special People and author of The Joy Exchange, to explore what it truly means to live a life marked by lasting joy. As part of the Season 5 theme ASCEND, this conversation reframes joy not as fleeting happiness, but as something deeper, relational, and transformational. Laura shares her journey from an 18-year-old college student struggling with comparison to stepping into leadership and purpose through serving individuals with disabilities. Together, Caroline and Laura unpack the difference between happiness and joy, revealing how joy is not dependent on circumstances but is instead built through connection - with God and with others. They explore how serving, leaning into discomfort, and choosing compassion over convenience can actually expand our capacity for joy. Laura also shares powerful research behind joy as a “muscle” that can be developed over time, reminding listeners that no matter their past or current circumstances, joy is not out of reach—it can be rebuilt. This episode is a heartfelt reminder that joy is found not in striving, but in abiding. Not in isolation, but in connection. And often, it’s discovered in the places we least expect - on the other side of awkward, in simple moments of delight, and in loving the people right in front of us. Whether you feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or simply longing for more joy in your life, this conversation will encourage you to start small, lean in, and receive the gift of joy that God is offering. What to Expect in This Episode Laura’s journey from college student to CEO of ESP The difference between happiness (circumstantial) and joy (relational) Why joy is something we build—not something we’re born with How serving others helps you discover your purpose The concept of joy as a “muscle” that can grow over time Why connection and being “delighted in” shapes our ability to experience joy How small moments (eye contact, smiles, hugs) create meaningful joy exchanges The importance of leaning into awkward instead of avoiding it How compassion differs from empathy—and why action matters Why perspective shifts can lighten heavy seasons How to cultivate belonging and joy within your family Practical ways to start building joy in everyday life Why loving God and loving others is the foundation of true joy Key Takeaways Joy is not the same as happiness—it is deeper, lasting, and rooted in connection. Your capacity for joy can grow at any stage of life. Joy is built through small, intentional moments of connection with others. Leaning into discomfort often leads to deeper joy and purpose. Compassion requires action—not just feeling. Serving others helps you discover who God created you to be. Perspective shifts can transform how you experience difficult seasons. Loving God and loving others is the foundation of a joyful life. Scripture Anchors John 15:9–13 — “That your joy may be complete… love one another as I have loved you.” Romans 15:13 — “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him.” John 9 — Jesus’ example of purpose through unexpected circumstances Practical Ways to Build Joy Lean Into Connection Make eye contact, smile, and engage—joy grows through simple human connection. Delight in Others Show people they are seen, valued, and loved through your presence and attention. Serve Regularly Serving others helps you discover purpose and expands your capacity for joy. Choose Compassion Over Comfort Move beyond empathy—take action to love and support others. Start Small Joy doesn’t come from big life changes, but from consistent, small exchanges. Resources Mentioned The Joy Exchange — Shop on Amazon! ESP (Extra Special People) — https://espyouandme.org Final Encouragement Joy is not something reserved for a select few, it is a gift available to you right now! Through stories of isolation during college, lessons learned from sports, and the challenges of launching a new business, Georgia shares how hard seasons can shape endurance, humility, and courage. They also talk about the power of consistency, the importance of guarding your mindset, and why fear of imperfection often keeps people from pursuing what God has placed on their hearts. Rising Above Anxiety: From Overwhelmed to Anchored

Episode Summary In this encouraging episode of The Living Transformed Podcast, Caroline sits down with licensed professional counselor Candace Couch to talk about one of the most common barriers women face in their journey of growth: anxiety. As part of the Season 5 theme ASCEND, this conversation explores how emotional healing is not separate from spiritual growth — it is part of the ascent. Candace brings both clinical wisdom and compassionate insight as she explains how anxiety develops, why it has become increasingly common in both children and adults, and how women can begin to move forward instead of remaining stuck in cycles of stress and overwhelm. Caroline and Candace discuss how our thoughts shape our emotions and behaviors, how family dynamics influence the way we interpret the world, and why awareness is often the first step toward meaningful transformation. They also explore how faith and counseling beautifully complement one another, offering both practical tools and biblical encouragement for navigating anxious seasons. Candace shares three simple but powerful tools that anyone can begin practicing today to calm the nervous system, regulate emotions, and reclaim control over anxious thinking. Together, they remind listeners that anxiety may be present in our lives, but it does not define us or determine our future. This episode offers encouragement, practical wisdom, and a powerful reminder: anxiety does not disqualify you from rising — healing is part of the ascent. What to Expect in This Episode Understanding why anxiety has become more common in today’s culture How family systems shape the way we think, feel, and respond The connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors Why emotional awareness is the first step toward transformation Signs parents should watch for when children are experiencing anxiety How strengthening family communication can reduce anxiety at home Why high-functioning women often struggle with anxiety The difference between everyday stress and clinical anxiety How shame and isolation keep people stuck in anxious patterns Three practical tools for calming anxiety in real time How marriage conflict is often rooted in defensiveness and unmet expectations The impact of family of origin dynamics on adult relationships Why emotional maturity requires accepting both strengths and weaknesses How faith and counseling work together in the healing process Encouragement for women who feel overwhelmed or alone in their struggles Key Takeaways Anxiety often follows predictable patterns and can be addressed with awareness and practical tools. Our thoughts influence our emotions and behaviors more than we often realize. Emotional maturity comes from accepting weaknesses rather than defending them. Family systems and childhood experiences shape how we see the world. Healing often begins with simply naming what we are experiencing. You are not alone — many women are thinking the same anxious thoughts. Faith and counseling work together to support emotional and spiritual health. Scripture Anchors Philippians 3:14 — “I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” 2 Corinthians 10:5 — “Take every thought captive to obey Christ.” Matthew 7:5 — “First take the plank out of your own eye…” Psalm 139:14 — “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” Three Tools for Rising Above Anxiety 1. Progressive Muscle Relaxation — Calming the Body Anxiety often begins in the body before it reaches our thoughts. Slowly relaxing each muscle group from head to toe teaches the brain that it is safe and not in immediate danger. 2. Intentional Breathing — Slowing the Nervous System Slow, controlled breathing signals the brain to move out of emergency mode and return to calm, thoughtful processing. 3. Think About What You're Thinking About — Renewing the Mind Once the body is calm, we can examine our thoughts. Identifying anxious or distorted thinking allows us to replace it with truth. Resources Mentioned True to You — Kathleen Smith The Gift of Being Yourself — David Benner The Freedom of Self-Forgetfulness — Tim Keller Final Encouragement Anxiety is something many people experience, but it does not have to control your life. Healing often begins with slowing down, becoming aware of what is happening beneath the surface, and allowing yourself to receive support. Whether that support comes through counseling, trusted friendships, or time with the Lord, freedom is possible. You are not alone in what you are facing. Growth, healing, and emotional maturity are all part of the journey of becoming who God created you to be. If this episode encouraged you, share it with a friend who may need this reminder today. Raising Confident Kids in a Body-Obsessed World: A Faith-Filled Conversation on Body Image, Confidence, and Teaching Children to Embrace their God-Given Identity

Episode Summary: In this powerful, hope-filled, and final episode of Season 4 of The Living Transformed Podcast, Caroline sits down with her dear friend, therapist, encourager, and fellow mom Tricia Searels to talk about one of the most pressing topics facing families today: raising confident, healthy kids in a body-obsessed world. Together, they explore how body image struggles aren’t just an issue for girls - but for boys too - and how these conversations often begin much earlier than we expect. Tricia and Caroline unpack what it looks like to respond to our kids with grace, not fear, curiosity, not correction, and truth, not shame, when body image concerns arise. This conversation is deeply rooted in Psalm 139, reminding us that God intentionally knit each child together with purpose. Trisha offers practical wisdom for navigating hard moments, like negative self-talk, comparison, food conversations, and movement, while encouraging moms to model calm, confidence, and gratitude in their own lives. Above all, this episode is a reminder that we don’t have to be perfect parents to raise confident kids. Our presence matters more than our words, grace covers our missteps, and healthy confidence grows best in homes marked by peace, consistency, and love in action. About Tricia Searels Tricia Searels is a therapist, encourager, and mom of two grown daughters who is passionate about helping families cultivate confidence, emotional health, and grace-filled rhythms at home. With years of experience walking alongside parents and young adults, Tricia brings wisdom, warmth, and practical insight to conversations around identity, body image, and parenting with intention. What to Expect in This Episode Why body image struggles affect both girls and boys How to respond when your child makes negative comments about their body The difference between being reactive vs. responsive as a parent Why curiosity is more powerful than correction How tone, posture, and body language often matter more than words Language swaps that remove shame around food and movement Why modeling calm and gratitude builds confidence in kids How joyful movement can be woven into family life The importance of boundaries, habits, and discipline rooted in love Why confidence grows when kids understand their God-given purpose Key Takeaways Your presence matters more than perfect parenting. Calm, consistent, grace-filled homes create confident kids. Curiosity opens the door for honest, shame-free conversations. Kids learn more from what we model than what we teach. Confidence grows when identity is anchored in God, not appearance. Scripture Anchors Psalm 139:13–14 - “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Psalm 139:1–4 - “You have searched me, Lord, and you know me.You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely.” Galatians 5:22–23 - “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” Romans 12:2 - “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Final Encouragement You were chosen by God to parent your children—on purpose and for a purpose.
