4 - Habituation & OCD: Why Facing Anxiety Changes Everything

Welcome to The Online Therapy Clinic. I’m Jaime — CBT & ERP therapist, EMDR practitioner, and Clinical Supervisor. In this video, we’re talking about habituation — the process of getting used to anxiety by staying with it, not running from it.🧠 Imagine standing on a bungee platform. Your heart races. You back out. Relief hits. But what happens when you repeat that pattern ten times?👉 The fear grows stronger.👉 The anxiety feels harder to face.👉 Your brain learns: “This is too much.”Now imagine you jump. You survive. You jump again. And again.By the tenth jump, you’re not terrified — you’re calm. Maybe even exhilarated. That’s habituation. That’s ERP therapy. That’s how recovery begins.💬 In this video, I’ll guide you through:• Why avoidance feels good short-term but keeps OCD alive• How habituation rewires your brain through repetition and courage• What it means to be willing — not fearless — in the face of discomfort• Why this approach works, even when it’s hard✨ This isn’t about pushing through pain. It’s about learning that you can survive it.And over time, you’ll feel less anxious. Less stuck. More free.🔔 Like, comment, and subscribe to support the channel and help others find this content. 3 - 🎥 Why Avoidance Keeps OCD Going Understanding Anxiety, Habituation & ERP

Welcome back to The Online Therapy Clinic. I’m Jaime — CBT & ERP therapist, EMDR practitioner, and Clinical Supervisor. In this third video, we’re diving into one of the most powerful (and misunderstood) parts of OCD treatment: habituation.🧠 If you live with OCD, you know that anxiety isn’t just part of the picture — it’s often the whole frame. And when anxiety hits, our instinct is to escape: avoid, distract, neutralise, check, wash, reassure. But here’s the paradox…👉 The more you try to get rid of anxiety,👉 The more tightly OCD holds on.In this video, I’ll walk you through the cycle of avoidance and compulsions, and show you how Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) helps you break free. We’ll explore:• Why short-term relief keeps OCD going• What habituation really means (and why it’s not about “feeling nothing”)• How anxiety naturally fades when we stop feeding the cycle• What it means to choose long-term freedom over short-term comfort📈 I’ll even sketch out the anxiety curve — so you can see how this works in real time.💬 This isn’t about pushing through distress blindly. It’s about learning that you can survive discomfort, that your brain can learn something new, and that you are capable of change.✨ These videos are educational and empowering — not a substitute for therapy, but a starting point for understanding what keeps OCD going and how to reclaim your life.🔔 Like, comment, and subscribe to support the channel and help others find this content. 2 - 🎥 Where Does OCD Come From? Understanding OCD & Moving Forward

Welcome back to The Online Therapy Clinic. I’m Jaime — CBT & ERP therapist, Clinical Supervisor, Meta Supervisor, and EMDR practitioner. In this video, we’re diving into one of the most common questions people ask in therapy:👉 “Where did my OCD come from?”👉 “Why do I have it?”🧠 These questions are valid — and they come from a place of wanting clarity. But after years of working with individuals affected by OCD and supervising therapists delivering evidence-based treatments, I can tell you: there’s rarely a single, clear-cut answer.OCD often emerges from a complex mix of factors — genetics, personality traits, upbringing, environmental stressors, and learned behaviours. But here’s the key insight: understanding why you have OCD doesn’t necessarily help you recover from it.💬 In therapy, we shift the focus from “Why me?” to “What now?”✨ How can I live fully with OCD?✨ How can I move forward, aligned with my values? This video — and the entire series — is here to help you do just that. Drawing from years of clinical experience, I’ll guide you through practical, evidence-based strategies to break free from OCD and start living the life you want.🔔 Like, comment, and subscribe to support the channel and help others find this content. When Trauma Echoes — Intrusive Thoughts in Trauma, PTSD and C-PTSD

Welcome back to CBT, EMDR, and Beyond—I’m Jaime, a therapist and supervisor specialising in trauma-informed care. In this episode, we explore intrusive thoughts through the lens of trauma, PTSD, and complex PTSD. You’ll learn how traumatic memories can resurface as vivid flashbacks, body sensations, or emotional spirals—and why these intrusions feel so real. We’ll unpack the difference between single-event and complex trauma, explore how everyday triggers like social media or sensory cues can reactivate old wounds, and offer gentle grounding tools to help you return to the present. This episode is for insight, not exposure—you won’t be asked to revisit painful memories. We close with a short breathing exercise to support calm and connection. If your mind feels haunted by the past, this episode offers clarity, compassion, and a path toward healing. Please subscribe, leave a comment if you wish to ask aquestion or make a request. Intrusive Thoughts in Depression and Low Self-esteem - De-Shaming and Normalising

Welcome to our Episode 3 of the Intrusive Thoughts Series. After looking at intrusive thoughts in OCD, GAD and Panic. We are moving to intrusive thoughts in #depression and #lowselfesteem. Common examples include thoughts like: “I am worthless.”“I’m unlovable.”“Nothing ever goes right for me.”“I’m a failure.” Over time, intrusive thoughts can feel automatic, chronic, and fused with identity, making them seem like an unchangeable part of oneself. We have a small meditation for self-esteem at the end of the episode. Remember: intrusive thoughts do not define who you are. With practice and support, you can manage them, reclaim your mental space, and nurture your emotional well-being. Please subscribe, leave a comment if you wish to ask aquestion or make a request.
