Mahabharat and Valmiki Ramayan are the two fundamental foundation epics of Hinduism. Ramayan describes the life of Ram, while Mahabharat is not focused on the life of any one person. Dwaipaayan Krishn, who is also called Maharshi Ved Vyas, and Vaasudev Krishn (also called Muralidhar, Giridhar, Gopal, Govind, Madhav etc.) are the soul of Mahabharat and hold all the strings of the story. On surface, it appears that Mahabharat is the story of the family feud within Kuru royal family between sons of Pandu (Pandav) and sons of Dhrutraashtr (Kaurav). But Mahabharat is certainly much bigger than a family feud. This epic is a vast storehouse of knowledge that teaches one about every aspect of life. The struggle in the epic is the clash between two different life-values. Dwaipaayan Krishn and Vaasudev Krishn put in relentless and continuous efforts to establish and strengthen the same fundamental values and ideals for which Ram fought the war against Raavan. Mahabharat is the story of their efforts. By learning and understanding this story and by adopting the learnings into our behaviour we can make our life happy and rich. This series “Mahabharat Ka Mahaparv” is most humbly submitted with the best of regards and wishes to those who value knowledge.  Valmikiy Ramayan is the original epic which narrates the story of Ram. It is a detailed work which describes Ram as a human being who faced all the difficulties of life. Ram of Valmikiy Ramayan faces dilemmas, discusses with his family and friends, accepts guidance from learned men and suffers hardships. He always takes the right decisions and follows the path of dharm. When Maharshi Ved Vyas was departing, Yuddhishthir asked Maharshi whether all disturbances had ended with the killing of Shishupaal. Maharshi smiled and said that troubles have just started and would continue for thirteen years. At the end of it, there would be massive destruction of Kshatriyas. The destruction will be centred on Yuddhishthir, will be caused by the crime of Duryodhan and will end by the bravery of Bheem and Arjun. This disturbed Yuddhishthir enormously and he thought of committing suicide but was stopped from taking the extreme step. Duryodhan went around seeing the great conference hall built for Raajsooy Yagy. Where there was no water, he thought that the place had water. And where there was a pond, he stepped as if it was just an illusion. He was ridiculed and laughed at by Paandav brothers excluding Yuddhishthir. On the way back to Hastinaapur, Duryodhan was burning with jealously and insult. He wanted to die if he could not get hold of the riches of Paandavs. Shakuni, his maternal uncle, suggested that Duryodhan could snatch all the wealth of Paandavs by defeating them in a game of dice. Shishupaal ridiculed and made fun of all that Krishn said. Krishn used his Sudarshan chakr and killed Shisupaal in a very quick way. After Shishupaal’s death, Shishupaal’s son was crowned as the king of Chedi. After that Raajsooy yagy was duly completed as per original plan without any further disturbance. When all the kings and other dignitaries assembled, Bheeshm asked Yuddhishthir to start with offering pooja to the assembled kings. He also instructed Yuddhishthir to first of all offer pooja to the one who was most powerful and the best among all present. Yuddhishthir asked Bheeshm for guidance about who was most deserving of being worshipped before all present. Bheeshm told that undoubtedly Vaasudev Krishn deserved the honour. Based on that, Sahdev offered pooja to Krishn and Krishn graciously accepted the pooja. This infuriated Chediraaj Shishupaal who loudly protested against it calling Krishn’s pooja as an open insult to all the kings who were present there. Yuddhishthir tried to calm Shishupaal down. Bheeshm stopped Yuddhishthir. He took a hard line against Shishupaal and defended his decision of offering first pooja to Krishn. Sahdev added to the hard line set by Bheeshm and challenged to a fight anyone who disagreed with the decision. As Yuddhishthir was thinking about preparing for Raajsooy yagy, Vaasudev Krishn came to Indraprasth. Yuddhishthir welcomed Krishn and requested Krishn to be the key person for the Raajsooy yagy. Krishn asked Yuddhishthir to play the key role. After receiving instructions from Krishn, Yuddhishthir started planning and preparations for the grand yagy. Arrangements were made for housing and food for the large number of guests that were expected. Special ambassadors were sent to invite kings, brahmins, businessmen and also prominent shoodrs. Yuddhishthir sent his brother Nakul as a special emissary to Hastinapur to invite family and relatives. Soon, kings and others started arriving. Yudhishthir welcomed them all. However, a special welcome was accorded to the delegation from Hastinapur. On his journey towards the south, Sahdev encountered many kingdoms. He could win many by diplomacy, but was required to use force in some cases. Sahdev was fighting against King Neel’s army when he found that Neel was supported by Agnidev. Neel prayed to Agnidev and said that all offerings in Raajsooy yagy would be to Agnidev and hence, Agnidev should not act as a hindrance. Agnidev blessed Sahdev and agreed to help. On Agnidev’s instructions, Neel agreed to pay taxes to Sahdev. When Sahdev reached the bridge which was constructed by Ram and which led to Lanka, Sahdev decided to call his nephew Ghatotkatch, son of Bheem and Hidimbaa, to act as an ambassador to Vibheeshan, the King of Lanka. Ghatotkatch visited Lanka and Vibheeshan agreed to cooperate by paying taxes. Mahabharat and Valmiki Ramayan are the two fundamental foundation epics of Hinduism. Ramayan describes the life of Ram, while Mahabharat is not focused on the life of any one person. Dwaipaayan Krishn, who is also called Maharshi Ved Vyas, and Vaasudev Krishn (also called Muralidhar, Giridhar, Gopal, Govind, Madhav etc.) are the soul of Mahabharat and hold all the strings of the story. On surface, it appears that Mahabharat is the story of the family feud within Kuru royal family between sons of Pandu (Pandav) and sons of Dhrutraashtr (Kaurav). But Mahabharat is certainly much bigger than a family feud. This epic is a vast storehouse of knowledge that teaches one about every aspect of life.
