  1. Behind the Scenes at QuitMormon with Founder Mark Naugle

Behind the Scenes at QuitMormon with Founder Mark Naugle

On this episode of Mormonish Podcast, Rebecca and Landon are joined by the founder of QuitMormon, Mark Naugle, for an extremely informative discussion on one of the most important tools in post Mormondom! QuitMormon is a website that helps facilitate removing your records from the LDS church and effectively ending your membership. The fact that this kind of procedure, including the use of notary, is required to leave a religious organization is problematic in itself. Mark takes us through his background of leaving the church as a teenager and then making it his mission to help others do the same for almost a decade. Mark shares his vision for QuitMormon that involves even more help and support to the post Mormon community. He also discusses their new fundraising efforts and hopes for the future. If you've even wondered who was behind QuitMormon and where it came from, you won't want to miss this episode. Thank you to my friend Cara for suggesting this great idea for a podcast! 2. Ecclesiastical Crackdown On BYU Professors? Why I Left with Former BYU Prof. Jason Bergman

Ecclesiastical Crackdown On BYU Professors? Why I Left with Former BYU Prof. Jason Bergman

On this episode of Mormonish Podcast, Rebecca and Landon are joined by former BYU professor Jason Bergman who appeared in the recent Salt Lake Tribune article discussing the ecclesiastical crackdown on BYU professors. Professor Bergman saw fist hand the increasingly tight grasp BYU had on it's professors, starting with Elder Holland's "Musket Talk" which Bergman attended, the new "Loyalty Oath" that employees had to sign, and increasingly concerning changes to faculty employment. Professor Bergman chose to leave his position at BYU after the situation became intolerable for him personally. He knew these new restrictions would not allow him to be the kind of teacher he wanted to be for his students. He was interviewed by the Salt Lake Tribune to share his perspective on the situation at BYU and Mormonish was so happy to be able to speak with Professor Bergman and learn more details of his personal faith journey and experience at BYU. 3. Reincarnation in Mormon Theology: Joseph Smith and Kabbalah

Reincarnation in Mormon Theology: Joseph Smith and Kabbalah

On this episode of Mormonish Podcast, Rebecca and Landon are joined by Master Peace, Ron Yorgason as we explore reincarnation theology in the early Mormon church. Few people realize that Joseph Smith was studying with a Kabbalah scholar in the months before his death and had become fascinated with the idea of reincarnation. Ron explains this emerging concept of multiple mortalities and plural probations that the prophet only shared with his inner circle. Had he lived, these Kabbalistic teachings might have ended up as mainstream LDS doctrine. Who knows. We definitely know that the more fringe followers of Mormonism like Chad and Lori Daybell were deeply interested in these obscure Mormon concepts or past lives and reincarnation. This episode will really open up some fascinating scenarios. ***How to DONATE to Mormonish Podcast: If you would like to help financially support our podcast, you can DONATE to support Mormonish Podcast here: DONATE THROUGH DONORBOX https://donorbox.org/mormonish-podcast Mormonish Podcast is a 501(c) (3) https://donorbox.org/mormonish-podcast ****WE HAVE MERCH! **** If you’d like to purchase Mormonish Merch, you can visit our Merch store here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/mormonishmerch We appreciate our Mormonish viewers and listeners so much! Were You An Orthodox Mormon? with Jacki Matthews

On this episode of Mormonish Podcast, Rebecca and Landon are joined by Jackie Matthews to discuss orthodoxy in the LDS church. Using the best seller, "Unorthodox: The Scandalous Rejection of my Hasidic Roots" by Debora Feldman, as our guide, we discuss hasidic Judaism with all of its rituals and practices and delve into the question of what makes a religion extreme? Are there variations within a faith from orthodox to moderate to reformed?Does this scale exist in Mormonism? This was a fascinating discussion of the history of the Jewish people and those that choose to practice their orthodox beliefs in a modern world. The parallels to Mormonism can't go unnoticed.
