Regeneration, science and tech that’s congruent with nature
13/09/2021
Those of us following and speaking about climate change focus on the science and the data but what I am starting to learn recently is that this focus comes at the cost of ignoring indigenous wisdom and experience. Technology uses science to build solutions but those solutions aren’t always congruent with natural systems. Example, solar panels and hydropower facilities. A deeper analysis of both in context of natural landscape and water or solar systems, reveals that they have a detrimental effect on the regions where these technologies are implemented. And it’s mostly because of scale. I think if we hope to make any real difference we need to recognise that our scale of production and consumption needs to consider foremost regeneration of all related natural cycles/systems - wisdom that indigenous communities still possess. Policies and practices that do not include regeneration and enable only technological fixes may actually create other unforeseen disturbances that will keep us in fire fighting mode. Please do consider this point in your talks. I love the conversation and there’s a lot of experience and knowledge on your side that gives energy to the movement. Thank you for putting so much into it.
Truely interesting and meaningful conversations
