Jesse Anderson: Leadership, Playoff Hockey & Life as a Binghamton Black Bear

He's back for Season No. 5! Fresh off re-signing with the Binghamton Black Bears, we're going back to April 21, 2026, for our conversation with three-time Commissioner's Cup Champion and alternate captain Jesse Anderson. At the time of this interview, the Black Bears had just completed another incredible regular season, finishing in first place and preparing for their second-round playoff matchup against the Port Huron Prowlers. Jesse joined the Power Play Post Show to discuss the team's mindset, playoff hockey, leadership, his defensive partnership with Scotty Ramaekers, and what makes playing hockey in Binghamton so special. Anderson had already established himself as one of the most dependable members of the Black Bears' roster, playing 50-plus games in each of his previous three full professional seasons and continuing to be a major part of the team's leadership group. In this conversation, Jesse talks about: 🏒 The Black Bears' mentality during another dominant regular season🏆 Chasing the historic three-peat and why the team focused on simply playing its best hockey💪 The physical demands of playing 50-plus games and how he keeps his body—and mind—ready throughout a long season🏒 His defensive chemistry with Scotty Ramaekers and how communication has made the pair so effective🛡️ Why Jesse believes the Black Bears had one of the best defensive corps in Single-A hockey🎥 Preparing to face the Topeka Scarecrows despite not seeing them during the regular season🥊 The physical history between the Black Bears and Port Huron—and whether playoff hockey could take things to another level🚌 What life is like on the road, including balancing his work responsibilities with card games and time with teammates🎖️ What wearing an "A" means to him and his approach to leadership💥 The “quiet until you make him mad” side of Jesse Anderson—and why protecting his teammates can quickly flip that switch❤️ His engagement and the importance of balancing hockey with life's biggest moments🏒 His thoughts on the NHL playoffs and his hope of seeing Sidney Crosby potentially make another championship run🐻 Why the Binghamton Black Bears fans are unlike anything he has experienced in professional hockey📣 What it means to see thousands of fans pack the arena—and even travel hundreds of miles to support the team on the road🏆 And, of course, his thoughts heading into the playoff battle with the Port Huron Prowlers One of the best parts of this interview is hearing Jesse describe what playing in Binghamton means to him. From the packed home crowds to the fans who travel to support the Black Bears on the road, Anderson says the atmosphere makes Binghamton feel like their own little NHL. You'll also hear the veteran defenseman explain his leadership style. Jesse isn't necessarily the loudest voice in the locker room, but when the situation calls for it—especially when one of his teammates needs protecting—he's ready to step up. Now, with Jesse officially returning to the Black Bears for his fifth season, this is the perfect opportunity to look back at a conversation with one of the key players who helped build the championship culture in Binghamton. 🎙️ Originally recorded April 21, 2026🏒 Power Play Post Show🎤 Hosted by Bob Howard Three championships. Five seasons. And Jesse Anderson isn't done yet. Go back with us to April as Jesse discusses the playoff push, the brotherhood inside the Black Bears locker room, the passion of Binghamton's fans, and what it takes to compete for another Commissioner's Cup. #BinghamtonBlackBears #JesseAnderson #PowerPlayPostShow #FPHL #BlackBearsHockey #BinghamtonHockey #CommissionersCup #ThreePeat #Hockey #MinorLeagueHockey

Austin D’Orazio: Finding His Way Back to Hockey

What happens when a hockey player reaches the point where he thinks he might be ready to walk away from the game? For Austin D’Orazio, the answer was a journey that eventually brought him to Binghamton. In this special re-release of the Power Play Post Show, Bob Howard sits down with the rookie defenseman of the Binghamton Black Bears to talk about his journey through junior hockey, his time at Utica University, and the unexpected path that led him to the Black Bears. D’Orazio grew up in Vaughan, Ontario, where hockey was a way of life. He played alongside fellow Vaughan native Zac Sirota during their junior hockey days, and that connection would eventually play a major role in bringing Austin to Binghamton. Austin talks about: 🏒 Growing up playing hockey in the Greater Toronto Hockey League 🏒 His years with the Vaughan Kings and the importance of his early development 🏒 The challenges of moving around during junior hockey 🏒 Playing for Newmarket, Markham and Trenton 🏒 His unforgettable final junior season with Trenton, where he recorded 14 goals and 40 assists for 54 points in 51 games 🏒 His experience playing NCAA Division III hockey at Utica University 🏒 The difficult decision to leave Utica and the possibility that he might walk away from hockey altogether 🏒 How a conversation with Zac Sirota helped reignite his passion for the game 🏒 His first conversation with Head Coach Brant Sherwood and why that conversation meant so much 🏒 His first impressions of the Black Bears organization and its facilities 🏒 The incredible support of Binghamton's fans 🏒 What it's like playing defense alongside veteran Dan Stone 🏒 Scoring his first professional goal as a Black Bear 🏒 The chemistry among Binghamton's rookie class 🏒 Rooming with Cheechoo Lathlin 🏒 His thoughts on Zac Sirota's “rat” style of hockey 🏒 And the hunger among Binghamton's rookies to help bring a third consecutive Commissioner's Cup Championship to the city One of the most compelling moments comes when Austin talks about the realization that he still wasn't finished with hockey. After considering a normal 9-to-5 life, seeing his friends head back to play hockey made him realize something: He still loved the game. That realization eventually led him to Binghamton—and he couldn't be happier that it did. Austin also shares what it was like to score his first Black Bears goal, admitting that he essentially “blacked out” during the moment and didn't remember much of what happened until he watched it back. It's a great conversation about hockey, perseverance, finding the right fit, friendships, confidence, and rediscovering your passion for the game. 🎙️ Originally recorded November 13, 2025 🏒 Power Play Post Show 🎤 Hosted by Bob Howard If you're a Black Bears fan, this is a great chance to go back and hear the story of Austin D'Orazio's first season in Binghamton—and the journey that brought him here. #PPPShow #BinghamtonHockey

Dominik Tmej: The Journey to Binghamton, Faith, Hockey & a Championship Goal

Dominik Tmej: The Journey to Binghamton, Faith, Hockey & a Championship Goal Before Dominik Tmej became one of the goaltenders helping lead the Binghamton Black Bears, there was a journey that took him across two continents, through major junior hockey, college, uncertainty — and nearly away from hockey altogether. In this special Season 15 replay of the Power Play Post Show, Bob Howard sits down with Dominik Tmej for an in-depth conversation about the road that ultimately brought him to Binghamton. Born in Prague, Czech Republic, Tmej started skating at just two years old. He and his brother eventually moved with their parents to Florida to pursue their hockey dreams, beginning a journey that would take Dominik from Florida youth hockey to the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Junior A hockey in Summerside, college hockey at Briarcrest, and eventually the ECHL. But the road wasn't always easy. Dominik talks openly about being sent down from major junior hockey, the lessons he learned from that experience, and the disappointment of having a championship opportunity disappear when COVID shut down the 2019-20 season. He also shares one of the most personal stories we've had on the Power Play Post Show — how he discovered his Christian faith while at Briarcrest and how it changed his life. Then comes the moment that ultimately changed his hockey career. After college, Dominik had gone to Europe hoping to continue playing hockey, but as the months went by, nothing was happening. He was beginning to wonder if his playing career was coming to an end. Then, after praying for a sign about what path his life should take, he received a message in the middle of the night about an opportunity with the Norfolk Admirals. And after that opportunity didn't work out, Brant Sherwood sent him a text. A short time later, Tmej was on his way to Binghamton. Dominik explains what Brant told him about the Black Bears organization, why the decision to come to Binghamton became an easy one, and even the strange connection he discovered between the Black Bears and his own Facebook feed through Zach Sirota's father, Les. Once in Binghamton, Tmej found himself competing alongside Connor McAnanama and Wyatt Friedlander, three goaltenders who pushed each other every day. He talks about learning from Connor, the competition between the goaltenders, the talent in front of him, and why playing behind a team filled with championship-caliber players makes him better. He also opens up about the one game that really changed his approach to the season — the November 14 loss to the Athens Rock Lobsters. Rather than dwell on giving up four goals, Tmej used the loss as motivation to improve his skating, puck tracking and overall game. And there's one thing he makes absolutely clear: He doesn't play for personal statistics. He plays to win. When asked what the goal was for the Black Bears that season, his answer was immediate: "Win a championship. That's it. There isn't anything else." This is a conversation about hockey, perseverance, faith, family, personal growth, friendship, competition and the pursuit of a championship. If you missed Dominik Tmej's Season 15 interview the first time around, this is one you don't want to miss the second time. Gehrett Sargis: Why He Chose Binghamton, Brant Sherwood & the Pursuit of Another Championship

Before Gehrett Sargis became one of the veteran voices in the Binghamton Black Bears locker room, he had already built a hockey career defined by perseverance, championships, leadership and a genuine love for the game. In this special Season 15 replay of the Power Play Post Show, Bob Howard sits down with the veteran forward for an in-depth conversation about the journey that brought him to Binghamton — and why his relationship with head coach Brant Sherwood played such a major role in his decision to become a Black Bear. Sargis takes us back to his childhood hockey days in the Chicago area, his path through junior hockey, his unforgettable championship run in Helena, his years with the Danville Dashers and his championship experience with Roanoke. He also talks about playing in the ECHL, the differences between the ECHL, SPHL and FPHL, and why he believes the top teams in the FPHL can absolutely compete at higher levels. But there's much more to this interview. Sargis talks about reuniting with former Columbus teammates Ivan Bondarenko, CJ Stubbs and Mac Jansen, what it was like playing against Brant Sherwood before eventually playing alongside him, and how Sherwood's relationship with him helped make Binghamton the right place to continue his career. He also opens up about something that has become an important part of his role in Binghamton — helping younger players learn how to be professionals. His comments about mentoring players like Cheechoo Lathlin offer a fascinating look at the leadership that doesn't always show up on the scoresheet. And when Bob asks the question every Black Bears fan wants answered — what is the goal? — Sargis doesn't hesitate: "100% is a championship." It's a great conversation with one of the most experienced players to put on a Black Bears jersey. If you missed this interview the first time around, now is your chance to hear it again.
